Page 42 of Take Me With You

“If I can stay here at the chalet and take care of myself, then I can go home and take care of myself!” she explodes.

“You won’t be taking care of yourself.”

“What? Am I supposed to hire someone?”

“No. You’ve got me,” I grit out through clenched teeth.

“You?”

“Yes. Me.”

“The same guy that just went all caveman on me by tossing me over his back and cursing everyone out?”

“For the record, I didn’t toss you over my back. I carried you in my arms. And if someone got in my way again from making sure you’re taken care of, I’d do the same shit!” I grouse.

“Kincaid—”

“Cade.”

“Kincaid Maxwell, you have a business to run, and you cannot sit by my side babysitting me for two weeks!”

That’s it. I’m fed up with her arguing and her shit.

Sitting on the side of the bed where she’s got her foot propped up, I get in her face.

“I run a fucking multibillion-dollar global company. My father, currently at the helm of that company until his retirement, has groomed me to take care of the company. If, between the two of us, we haven’t hired staff who can still run that fucking company in our absence, then shame on us. We don’t deserve the company. Worse still, if we can’t do that much, I don’t know how we grew the company to where it is today!”

“I’m not staying here, Cade!” she snaps, repositioning to swing her injured foot off the bed with her right one.

“The fuck you aren’t!” I say, moving to the side of the bed where she’s now trying to stand. “If I have to fucking barricade you here, you’re not leaving until the doctor says you can!”

“You can’t fucking tell me what to do, Kincaid Maxwell! I’m a grown woman!”

She reverts to my full name whenever she’s angry with me. I'd find that cute if I weren’t so pissed at her. But as it stands, I’ve got my hands full with her attitude, and I’m about to bring it to an end.

Grabbing her shoulders, I get in her face once more. “You keep giving me shit for attitude, and I’m about to bend your ass over my knees and spank you!” I growl.

“You wouldn’t fucking dare,” she hisses.

“Just fucking try me,” I snarl.

Someone knocks at the door, and we both yell, “Go away!”

Unfortunately, the person doesn’t listen. Looking over my shoulder to glare at the offender, I find Stacey and Shepherd standing in the doorway, glowering at us.

“Didn’t you hear what I said?” I growl.

“Yes, I heard you, and so did the entire town of Alta,” Stacey says.

“You guys are a bit loud,” Shepherd says with an annoying smirk. “Can I speak with you for a moment?” he asks with a jerk of his head.

“No, I’m not done here,” I say, glaring again at Yesenia.

“Yes. You. Are!” she exclaims.

“Cade, just give me five minutes with my sister, and then you can come back when both of you are cooled down,” she says.

Tugging me away from Yesenia, Stacey peers over my shoulder at her stepsister before whispering, “Please. I can get her to do what you want if you just give me a minute.”
