“Girl! Have you seen you? You have a body to die for, and one made for flaunting. That dress is killing on you!” she exclaims. “Besides, we’re all dressed in a similar style tonight.”

I glance at her dress for the first time and notice she’s right. She’s wearing a long black sheer dress that you can see through. Black lace gloves are on her hands up to her elbows. The only parts of her body that her dress covers are her breasts, ass, and private area. A thin swatch of cloth covers all those.

“Your dress is stunning,” I remark.

“Thank you. Champ!” she calls out to a thick woman with long red locs.

When she turns around, I recognize her as beauty expert, Champion Smith. She’s a cosmetologist to the stars.

“Champ, this is Cade’s date, Yesenia. Yesenia, this is Champ, my best friend.”

Champ’s eyes light up with intrigue when Mal mentions Kincaid. Her lips twist slightly, and her eyebrow lifts.

A jealous streak runs through me as I wonder if this is a woman he’s been involved with in the past. I take in her bold, beautiful curves, thick lips, and glowing brown skin. I look like a beanpole next to her.

Suddenly, I feel self-conscious about my dress, wishing I’d worn the pantsuit instead. My figure looks boyish compared to her womanly one.

Like Mal, her black one-shoulder dress is long but not sheer. A long slit on the left leg rises to her hip like mine, and the dress has a ring cutout on the left side. In short, it looks like she draped material around her breasts, left shoulder, and another long swatch of cloth to make up her skirt.

It’s beautiful, bold, and sexy, and she’s extremely confident wearing it. I can see her thick curvy legs, thighs, and hips for days with every movement she makes. And her ass? She has an ass to die for.

I hear Cade behind me saying, “Champ!” and I want to disappear. I can’t bear to turn around and see how he’s probably ogling her body in this dress.

Before I can try to slip away, surprisingly, his arm drapes around my shoulders.

“Here, love. I got you a drink,” he says, pressing a glass of white wine into my hand.

I sip the wine to give me the courage to get through the rest of the night.

“I was just introducing Yesenia to Champ,” Mal says.

“Yaya,” I say, reaching out to shake Champ’s hand.

Lifting an eyebrow, she says, “Excuse me?”

“Yaya. Everyone calls me Yaya.”

“Except for me,” Cade says in a dark, possessive tone.

A smirk lifts Champ’s lips, and I wonder what she’s thinking, but I don’t have to wonder for long.

“Finally. Are you settling down?” Champ taunts with a wicked gleam in her eyes.

“Nia is just my friend,” he says, and something sinks inside my belly.

I want to get mad at him, but he’s telling the truth. Still. Saying that to someone like Champ makes me feel insignificant. She was probably afriendalso, so she knows what that means.

Someone, he’s just fucking!

I take another sip of wine to hide the anger that I feel.

“Mm, what happened to Claire?”

Yep, this bitch is really pissing me off now.

“She accepted a position in her company’s Paris office.”

“Good. I never thought she was meant for you. A little weak, I’d say,” Champ says, sipping her own wine.
