She takes a deep breath, swiping loose tendrils from her face. I'm sure she's grown tired of this repetitive conversation over the past week. It’s not like the MC knows we’re seeing each other either. If this ends badly, their business intentions will fall apart. Especially after my father’s disapproving rants. My father who cares more about losing control of me than blowing up this deal to get rid of her.As if that will work.

She sits up to turn on her belly and lay on me, placing her chin on my chest in stares directly at me.God she's beautiful.

Her light brown eyes bore through me as she grinds her teeth. With one eyebrow raised, she taps her fingers on my chest. “Let's not ruin our last night for a while together.” She smiles and quickly kisses my nipple.

I don't want to, but the only thing that occupies this much of my brain is her beautiful face and how much I'll miss it.

“I'll try,” I offer finally. “Let's get some rest before you go.”

“Let’s.”

She slides up to the pillow beside mine and turns away from me, then pushes back against my body. Once she tucks her hair beneath her, she lays perfectly affixed to my comfort.

It doesn't even seem like I blinked before I hear what seems to be my front door open and closed. My eyes start open to make sure I'm still holding Evonna.Still asleep.

A wake quietly to make sure I wasn't just hearing things. The subtle sounds of Evonna’s short breaths fill the room as I take in the otherwise silence. Cars whizzing by on the street below seem more abundant than usual for this time of night. I peer over at the clock on the nightstand and it’s a little past one in the morning. Listening closely for any creek of the stairs, squeal of an opening door, or click of a gun cock stills me. My eyes dart around the room, anticipating a shot in the dark, but there’s nothing. I drop my head on the pillow, uneasy, heart pumping, and hand itching to grab my gun. My hair stands up and I know, something isn’t right.

I listen more keenly, ready for the trouble I feel lurking. Intuition to reality, I know something is about to happen. I lift up to see if the motion sensor I placed midway of the stairs alerts me with the ambient flashing light beside my door.

The pulsing light fills the room quickly. Dammit!

I turn and grab my weapon from the drawer in my nightstand, before quickly turning back as she adjusts in the bed.

“Baby—.”

I cup her lips with the palm of my hand. “Don't speak,” I whisper as she jolts awake.

She nods and turns to face me.

I remove my hand. “There's someone here.
