“Always my son,” Elena responded tucking her into the seat beside her as the door closed them into the car. “I adore seeing you and Stefano together. Every kiss seems to be a little more connected and it is so sweet.”

“It’s as it should be,” Leann stated. “You never truly stop falling in love with the person who owns your heart.”

“No, I suppose you don’t,” Elena agreed, her face softening and Hailey knew she was thinking of Stefano’s father. She waited until after they had finished trying on her dress and her mother was helping her bridesmaids look over their dresses to pull Elena aside for a moment.

“I was hoping you could help me with something.”

“What my love?” Elena asked sliding her arm through hers and steering them away from the laughter of the girls trying on their dresses. She hadn’t included Kyra and Stefano hadn’t included Demetrius in his groomsmen party, so she was thankfully not there.

“It’s about Stefano’s father…so I understand if it’s too difficult for you, but I know he has no photos of them together. I don’t think it’s bothered him too much, but now that we’re getting married and thinking of having a family of our own, I think it does just a bit. I just wondered if you had any of them that I could get reprinted and framed for Stefano for his wedding gift.”

“I have dozens and I think it’s the perfect idea, something straight from the heart. I will bring them tomorrow and let you go through them, choose whichever you want,” Elena stated, and she smiled hoping that it would spark something inside Stefano to want more than what they had agreed upon, want everything to happen between them.

She spent the next night after the dinner party looking through the boxes, smiling when she found a few that pulled at her heart. A knock on the door had her putting everything away as she grabbed her robe, unsure who would be knocking on the door at two o’clock in the morning. She padded over to the door and opened it, lifting a brow when she found Stefano on the other side of it. “What are you doing up here?”

“Seeing if everything was okay, it’s later than you normally go to bed,” he replied drinking in the sight of her face devoid of makeup, a white silk robe clinging to her the way his hands wanted to touch her.

“Everything’s fine, I was just working on something.”

“At two o’clock in the morning? You practically flew up here after everyone had left. Are you worried about Demetrius?”

“No, I had your mother bring me something and since there’s only five weeks before the wedding I’m in a bit of a time crunch here.”

“What are you working on? I’m more than willing to help if it’s going to keep you awake all hours of the night.”

“It’s not; I just got a little caught up in it tonight. I’m going to go to bed soon.”

“I don’t want you overdoing it Hailey. Our mothers are more than willing to do whatever you want to make the day special.”

“I know, but this is mine to do okay? I mean, it’s not like I’ll ever have another wedding, right?” she said lifting an eyebrow as she saw his mother’s door open.

“Not a chance in hell,” he replied, his voice taunt at the mere idea of another man having her. “You’re mine and you know it,pethi mou.”

“Then let me have this one little thing to surprise you and everyone else with,” she stated, and he gave a slight nod pulling her up against him tightly.

“Alright, but you owe me a kiss for making me worry about you my darling love. You should be resting.”

“I will soon, I promise,” she replied giving into the kiss that he lowered onto her lips.

“Goodnight Stefano,” Elena said when it lingered the slightest bit too long.

“Goodnight Mother, sleep well, pethi mou, dream of me,” he replied with a last kiss to her lips.

“I always do my love, always,” she said sharing a smile with Elena before going back into her room to sleep.

Chapter 11

“H

ailey, come on in,” Gina said giving her a bright smile as she came out to the front receptionist’s desk to meet her.

“I know I didn’t make an appointment, but I was sure the mothers would find out and I want this to be a surprise for everyone, but especially for Stefano,” Hailey said carrying the box in carefully.

“Alright, what can I do to help?” Gina asked as she sat the box down on the table.

“Stefano’s father died when he was seven and he’s the sort that feels he shouldn’t dwell on things too much, so he has one photo of him, and it sits in a drawer in his desk in his home office. We’re not shying away from the fact that we want a family, hopefully soon,” Hailey said, and Gina gave her a smile and nod.

“Your mothers are hoping you’ll come home from your honeymoon with an announcement.”
