“Stefano? The bike outside…”

“Fastest way to get here from the airport, the car is coming behind me, please bring its passenger inside once it arrives. For now, tell me how no one can know where my wife is?” Stefano demanded.

“She took your car before we woke. We do not know where she went in it,” Elena said her voice barely above a whisper as shock gripped her tightly. “You sent her a message telling her goodbye…how did you survive? Why did they not tell us you were alive?”

“I wasn’t on the plane when it crashed,” he answered gently. “I was on the plane, talking with Hailey when I got news, answers about Nikolas that I had been waiting for, and stepped off, leaving my phone on the plane. The answers had me quickly leaving, without my phone and by the time I returned to the airport it was to discover the plane gone.”

“Only family could take the plane,” Theo stated, and Stefano nodded.

“Demetrius and Nikolas took it in effort to run, knowing that with the answers I had uncovered I would be going after Nikolas for what he had done to us. They were on the plane, not I.”

“Demetrius must have sent the message to hurt Hailey,” Olympia said covering her mouth in shocked anger. “She was so upset about it.”

“I can only imagine what she thought hearing that I was gone,” Stefano stated trying to control his own anger over it all.

“It’s not that Stefano,” Olympia said holding onto Xavier’s arm for comfort. “The message simply told her that the plane was likely to crash. The end said only goodbye. She was distraught that you hadn’t even told her you loved her, just goodbye.”

Stefano’s body seized with pain and Elena cupped his cheek gently lifting his face to her.

“She tried to call your phone…heard the crash…”

“I have to find her,” Stefano stated, and Elena nodded. “Mother, Demetrius…”

“Pains me greatly to know that my son is gone, but to know that you are here, that your sons—babies will have you, that Hailey will not ache as she is now, eases the depths of it,” Elena said pressing a kiss to his cheek.

“Stefano, the car just reached the gates,” Karl stated getting the notice.

“Hailey?” he asked with hope.

“No, it is Markus with your passenger,” he told him, and Stefano nodded returning his attention to his mother.

“I have something for you, it is something that Nikolas took from you far too long ago and why I left that plane, why I am here with you still,” Stefano said, and Elena gave him a long look of questions.

“What could Nikolas have taken from me? A passenger you’ve brought from Greece that was taken from me? I do not understand, my son,” she said, and Stefano nodded pressing a kiss to her forehead before getting up to go greet their guest.

“You will,” he promised her.

“I expected you to be wrapped around your wife,” was the greeting he received.

“I would be if she were here, but no one seems to know where she went this morning. I will find her shortly but for now, Mother is in the salon and I cannot have her hurting any longer,” he replied guiding him to the room, gaining the attention of it again as he stepped inside the space. “Mother, I believe you two are well acquainted.”

“Daniel?!” Elena gasped and Stefano let his father cross the room to her as she stood rushing towards him.

“You are more gorgeous now than ever,” Daniel said enclosing her in his arms making Stefano smile needing that with Hailey now.

“I will be back in a few moments,” he told the others knowing his parents were fully engrossed with one another allowing the explanations to remain for later.

He moved into his study, lifting the phone from its cradle and dialed Hailey’s cell phone but it went straight to voicemail making him worry further. He lifted the phone again, hitting the speed dial for Artemis and hoped the man had answers for him.

“Hello?” Artemis said hesitantly and Stefano felt his nerves tighten.

“Artemis, where is Hailey?” he questioned.

“Stefano?” Artemis stated and he heard the surprise and disbelief in the man’s voice.

“Yes, Demetrius absconded with the plane and he sent a message from my phone to Hailey. Tell me you know where she is. If anything has happened to her in her grief…”

“She is safe, upset but safe Stefano. I would not allow anything to harm her even in your death or believed death as it is.”
