Despite the beauty and luxury of the bedroom and bathroom, I feel suffocated, knowing that I'm locked inside with no way out. Just another reminder that I'm not free and that Nikolai controls every aspect of my life. I just want to go home and be with Delphina.

Before I can sit down, there's a knock at the door. I turn to see an older man enter the room, his hair a soft shade of grey. He's dressed impeccably in black pants and a crisp white button-down shirt. As he steps closer, I can see that his face is stern and unsmiling. He gives me a quick glance, sizing me up from head to toe, before he speaks.

"I am Osip, Mr. Fedorov's butler. How do you do, Miss Adalina?" Osip introduces himself.

Filled with anger, I respond, "I'm not doing well, as you might have guessed. I'm being held captive against my will."

Osip acknowledges my statement but continues with his role. "Be that as it may, I am here to give you a tour of the compound and inform you of the rules."

He proceeds to list the rules of the compound, "You must stay inside the confines of the compound at all times. If the sensors detect that you have left, your ankle monitor will explode, resulting in your untimely death. Dinner is served every evening at 8:00 p.m. sharp in the dining room, and evening dress is required. However, that won't be necessary until you are provided with proper clothing. Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. You are responsible for your own lunch, and the kitchen is open for lunch and snacks throughout the day. The knives have been locked up to prevent any incidents. You must treat Mr. Fedorov's staff with respect at all times. Violence and attempted escapes will not be tolerated, and any such actions will result in confinement to the jail cell in the basement. You will have two bodyguards at all times. There is a camera in every room of this compound, except the bathrooms and Mr. Fedorov’s bedroom. Therefore, you will be constantly monitored and under surveillance."

Osip concludes, "I will do my best to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. If you require any additional toiletries that are not in your bathroom, please let me know, and I'll procure them for you. Don't hesitate to ask if you need anything."

I turn to Osip, “I want my cellphone.”

“Your cellphone has been confiscated. You are not allowed to contact anyone outside of the compound during your stay.”

I roll my eyes at his stuffiness when a stunning woman enters my room. She is tall, blonde and curvy, wearing a tight dress and stilettos. Osip introduces her, “This is Tatyana, Mr. Fedorov’s personal assistant. She is here to take your measurements for new clothes and to inquire about any other needs you may have.”

I glare at her. “Adalina, dear, I am Tatyana Borisova. I work with Nikolai. He asked me to go shopping for you and buy you some clothing, I need your measurements and sizes,” she explains.

As she takes my measurements, I can't help but wonder what else Nikolai has planned for me.

“I want to talk to Nikolai.”

Tatyana shakes her head with a sly smile. "Sorry, dear, that's not possible. Nikolai is a very busy man," she says in a sugary-sweet voice.

“You really must do something with your hair, dear, it is a mess.” Her remark stings me.

She saunters out of my room. I can’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy as the sight of Tatyana curves. I wonder what her relationship with Nikolai is?

“It is difficult to look good when you are a hostage.” I mumble as I walk into to the bathroom and look at myself in the mirror. My hair is a mess. I hate this place. I walk back into the bedroom.

I glare at Osip. "Osip, I need to talk to Nikolai. It's urgent," I say, my voice laced with anger.

He shakes his head. "I'm sorry, Miss Adalina, but Mr. Fedorov is a busy man. I cannot disturb him."

I clench my fists in frustration. "I don't care how busy he is! I need to speak to him now!"

Osip looks annoyed when he announces, “I said no, Miss Adalina.”

I ignore him and grab one of the lamps from the bedside table, throwing it against the wall with all my might. It shatters into pieces. I do the same with the other lamp on the opposite table.

Osip's eyes widen in shock. "What are you doing? You can't just destroy property!"

I turn to face him, breathing heavily. "Every time you deny me the chance to speak with Nikolai, I'll break something else in this room. Do you understand me?"

Osip marches out of my room in a huff and slams the door. I hear the lock engage.

“Tell Nikolai I want to talk to him!” I yell at the closed door hoping he can hear me. But there is no response.

I flop down on the couch in the sitting area. A beautiful glass vase with freshly cut flowers sits on the coffee table. Suddenly, I throw the vase across the room in a fit of anger. The vase shatters against the far wall, the glass breaks into sharp pieces and flowers scatter across the floor. I get up from the couch and start pacing around the room, my mind racing with thoughts of how I ended up in this situation. I grit my teeth while tears of frustration and anger stream down my face. I feel trapped and powerless.

Nikolai

Sitting behind my desk, I try to focus on work, but thoughts of Adalina invade my mind. I can’t stop thinking about the night we spent together. It is tattooed on my mind. I can still feel her skin under my fingertips and hear her erotic moans in my ear. I don’t understand. I never respond to women, and yet…Adalina is different. She is different from any other woman I have ever encountered.

Suddenly, Osip bursts into my office looking distressed and holding a tray of food. I raise an eyebrow at him.
