They had all kept me from knowing too much, it was the only way. But now, not knowing was dangerous for her. For us.

Deep down, I knew what had to be done to survive.

“What happened to Chief Pierce?” Her voice was low, and her hair furled as she faced me.

“I can’t explain that to you.”

“Is he even alive?”

I tried not to show how much her question stung. “He’s fine,” I said between my teeth, taking a step closer. “Now, what is it that you are hiding?”

“Me?” Placing her hand to her chest, she moved away from the patio door. “I learned just days ago who your family really is, and today, you keep things that would matter to me. You kept them to yourself.”

“Please, I didn’t know a thing about you. You didn’t ask, and neither did I. So, we didn’t share.” I stopped walking once her gaze reached mine. “The real question is, Davina,” I held her neck while staring into her large eyes, “Are you okay with it?” My hand stayed to keep her from looking away, and the other gripped her hip, bringing her closer to me. “Because it seems it’ll only get darker, kroshka.” My thumb caressed over her hipline, moving under her shirt to feel her skin.

Davina’s eyes fluttered with my touch. Her mouth parted, letting our breath mix. I stopped moving to see her reaction, to know where we stood.

“Why did you stop?” she asked.

My head dipped to her neck. My lips crossed over her scar as my scruff scratched its way to her ear. “Because I need you to answer. I need to hear the words I so desperately want to know.” When I pulled back, her eyes looked away from me.

My hand slipped away from her neck and to the back of her hair, pulling it by the roots to get her dark eyes back on me.

They snapped quickly to me as her chest rose.

“Yes.”

“Yes, what?”

DAVINA

I wanted to say yes to everything, anything he could offer, but my mind reminded me what it would be agreeing to a life filled with blood and secrets that were best kept unknown. A life of always looking over my shoulder for danger because there would always be a target by being affiliated to Ilias. To any of them.

Would they ever let me go? After everything I’d learned?

Most importantly, could I ever go back to living a normal life? No. I couldn’t. Not if Ilias wasn’t next to me. He made me feel protected, cared for, and strong. Something I hadn’t found or felt years before my mother’s passing.

Ilias had given me the strength I needed to feel the way I did today. He made me realize I could be fierce and stand up for myself.

How could I even think I was better than any of them? I, too, had killed. I’d lied, and kept secrets for my own gain, our gain.

Love could be blind, but as I stared into his bright blue eyes, love could also be vibrant to those who found it.

And now that I’d faced death and lived to tell the story more than once, I would take my chances of happiness while I could.

His grip around my hair tightened as he demanded my response. But all it did was add more desire and craving for him.

“To us,” I rasped.

Ilias pushed me back against the French patio door before pressing his body to mine, and I could feel his longing for me. Keeping my head pushed with his tight grip on my hair, he took my lips in a carnal kiss that was insatiable.

His large and heavy palms held me at his mercy, and I was needy by just their touch, their strength and fervor as they held my body. My legs squirmed with the passion only his kiss could bring.

I needed to touch him, to feel more of him. My hands clung to his chest, and I felt his warm body through his shirt. His throat made a pleasing sound as my nails scratched their path up to his hair. Soon, my lungs gasped for air as his force picked me up. My legs quickly found his hips, but Ilias bounced my core to his hard, jean-covered bulge.

Another gasp expelled from my lips, and I wanted more. My desire pled for more, for friction, for his carnal need for me.

His mouth pulled away, and his scruff burned a trail up my cheek. His teeth nipped the sensitive spot behind my ear, and his voice was rough as he promised, “To us.”
