Page 197 of A War Around Us

“While I tell you this, I also have a motive.”

Of course he did, Lucca didn’t do anything without a gain even if it was to say thank you.

I tugged the bedsheet closer to my chest and gently nodded against the plush pillow.

“What do you want from me, Lucca?”

“Peace.”

“I don’t understand.”

He exhaled deeply and flicked his eyes away before they returned to me.

“I never asked about your past, but I have a clear picture of the man your father was to you, and I know the position your brothers had placed you in.”

“Yeah…” I quipped.

“I also haven’t shared my issues with your family and as they will arrive today, I need peace between us for at least a day.” His hand ran over his jaw. “I can’t have the war, your family, the threats, and you clouding my judgment. I can’t control the other or you, but I am asking for peace for just one day.”

I flipped over onto my stomach with a taunting smile I couldn’t hold. I balled the pillow under my chest as I lifted my head to watch him carefully.

My, my, was Lucca trying to negotiate a treaty between us? A truce?

The corner of Lucca’s lips twitched, and he gave me a look.

“Are you asking to be partners today, Lucca?” I smiled.

“I’m offering you support with your family today.”

“So you want to partner?” I rested my chin against my palm.

“Katia.”

“Lucca.”

“Stop smiling.”

I couldn’t. It was plastered all over my features. The victory for him to agree that together we would be stronger even if it was for a day. The victory for something I’d asked for, even if love wasn’t involved.

The trust.

“Just becauseyouasked so nicely.”

“All I asked was for one day of peace with you.” He tried to make it clear, and it was.

Lucca needed us to see eye to eye and ride the troubles of his mind knowing I would be okay, and that he could count on me.

“Now, stop smiling.”

My chest bubbled, and a laugh erupted by his testy tone. Lucca grumbled with dark eyes, and in one swift movement, his strong hands grabbed my hips and dragged me on top of him.

With our centers connected while the sheets writhed along with our bodies, I felt the outline of his dick pressed against me. I watched his brown eyes untamed as his breath feathered my lips.

I dampened my lips with my tongue and clutched onto his neck while my leg snaked around his hips. While we stared carefully at one another and our scents mingled, I failed to care about tomorrow or the following day. Because today we would be partners.

“I’m not good with peace,” I murmured against his mouth.

“That’s alright. You have tomorrow to wreck me.”
