“What the fuck? You scared me half to death.”

I stifle a smile. Sure, I’m creeping around like a pervert, but her anger almost makes it worth it. Her blue eyes turn the color of the midday sky when she’s angry.

“Just got back. Did you miss me, lass?”

“No. I’m disappointed actually.”

“Why’s that?” I ask.

I know why.

I step into the room and around to Aurora’s side of the bed.

Her eyes train in on my shirt collar. “Is that blood?”

“There was an issue, but I handled it.”

She sucks in a breath. I guess Billy really kept her in the dark. “The Russian mob?”

A surprisingly good guess for a sheltered biker princess.

“It’s nothing I care to discuss.” I smirk and sit down on the edge of the bed. “I’m going to lay all my cards on the table.”

Aurora sits up. She glares at me, but there is a glimmer of curiosity in her eyes.

“My motivation for suggesting this arrangement isn’t entirely altruistic.”

“Color me shocked,” she mutters under her breath.

“I haven’t stopped wanting you since the first time we met, Aurora. Maybe it’s because you disappeared into the night, which no woman has ever done to me before.” I chuckle. “Or maybe it’s because you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, but I want you and I’m tired of waiting.”

But if you want, I’ll happily wait forever, I add silently to myself.

Aurora chews on her lower lip, considering my words.

As far as romantic speeches go, it isn’t much, but it’s the best I can do. Finally, she concludes. “If you’re waiting for me to catch feelings, that’s never going to happen. But if we look at this practically, it’s like an arranged marriage. You know, one that came about at gunpoint.”

I run a hand through my hair. “The Dullahans killed my cousin. They’re lucky they’re not all dead.”

She looks away. I notice she does that whenever the subject of business comes up. Like if she ignores it, it might go away.

“I had nothing to do with that and I don’t know who did it either.”

It — like it was a mistake, and not cold-blooded murder. But if Aurora needs to distance herself from the actions of the Dullahans, that’s fine by me. This isn’t her world, it’s mine.

“I know.”

“Right.” She clears her throat. “You’re asking me to just get over it, right?”

“I wouldn’t put it like that.”

She shoots me a disgruntled look. Demanding honesty. “But you are. So here’s the thing, I can’t screw around with other guys because of your precious rep.”

I nod.

“And I have needs. Needs I expect you to meet since you’re the one standing in the way of anyone else meeting them. I’m just going to say it. I like sex. Most people do. But let’s be clear there are no fucking feelings between the two of us.”

I’m caught off guard. I haven’t met many women who would so openly demand to have their needs met. With no feelings attached, no less. It’s every man’s dream arrangement, and with my future wife of all women, so why do I have this strange feeling in my chest? Like I’m missing out on something.
