“And you’ll help me out,” I pushed, hoping she was picking up what I was silently putting down.

“You mean, encourage my bestie to go home with you? To be alone in a car with the only guy she’s ever wanted? Yeah, I’m sure that will be a tough sell.”

I must have made some sort of surprised face because she called me out instantly. “Don’t give me that look.” She pointed her finger at my face. “You know she’s always been in love with you. Everyone knows.”

The sound of Ivy’s shoes shuffling against the tiled floor had us instantly quieting down. Cori looked at me and gestured throwing dollar bills out of her palm like she was at a strip club. Little did she know that I would have paid her a hundred.

“What are you two up to?” Ivy asked as soon as she neared.

“I was telling Cori that I’m going to drive you home,” I informed instead of asking, and she looked at her best friend before looking back at me.

“Whyyyyy?” she said, dragging out the word.

“I noticed your car wasn’t outside. And the weather’s shit.”

“Are you saying I’m a bad driver?” Cori interjected, and I should have known she was going to throw a wrench into my plans. “That I can’t get our girl home in one piece? I’m offended.”

Ivy started nodding her head in agreement. “I think he is saying that, Cor. Pretty rude.”

The two of them were making this difficult, but I was up for the challenge.

“So, you don’t want me to take you home?” I decided to use a different approach and put Ivy on the spot. If she refused to let me drive her, she was going to have to say out loud that she didn’t want it…that she didn’t want me.

Her cheeks instantly started to turn pink. “I didn’t say that. It’s just that Cori and I had plans after. Right?” She widened her eyes, silently asking Cori to go along with the obvious lie.

Enough games.

Enough wasted time.

My body suddenly felt like it might waste away and die if I spent another second without her underneath me. I’d been denying my true feelings for years. I couldn’t do it anymore. I was irrational and consumed with lust.

“You two don’t have plans. And honestly, I don’t care if you do. Cancel them,” I said sternly, and Cori pressed her lips together to stop from either laughing or talking—I wasn’t sure which.

“Or what?” Ivy pushed, her long legs on full display. “You’ll call my brother and rat me out?”

Her brother. Everything about us always came back to him. Not tonight. Not right now.

“Good God, Ivy. My car’s full. Can’t fit you,” Cori said, and I smiled, letting her know she’d earned that fifty.

“Your car isn’t full. I rode here in it,” Ivy argued.

“I have to put all these decorations somewhere.” Cori waved a hand toward the decor that was in no way going inside anyone’s car. They stayed here in a storage closet, and we all knew it.

“Fine, Saint. You can take me home, I guess. Let me go change,” she said, but I reached for her arm and held her still.

“Don’t get out of that outfit.” I’d been imagining all the things I could do to her in that tiny little skirt. The last thing I wanted was her out of it. We were going to play Santa and the naughty elf if I got my way.

“Hey,” Cori complained, “you can’t keep the clothes.”

“We can for one night,” I suggested.

Cori rubbed her fingers together in the air, hinting that it would cost me. I gave her a nod.

Ivy looked down at her outfit before looking at mine. “You’re staying in the Santa suit?”

“I’m staying in the Santa suit.”

She shrugged. “You’re being really weird, but I’m here for it.”
