Chance bowed his head, placing his hand on the doorknob. “Thank you.” After the quick goodbyes, he stepped outside, closing the door.

“Nice man.” I beamed, handing Chance his cane.

“He is.” A ringing erupted from his pocket. Rolling his eyes, he pulled it out, placing it to his ear.

Hello?

Ah, okay. Yeah, they got us at the airport.

Yeah, she’s right here.

I’ll ask.

I lifted a finger to my chin, squinting my eyes. “Ask me what?” I whispered.

Holding up his finger, he listened to the person on the other end for a moment.

I might feel up for it. We’ll get settled and I’ll text you soon.

Okay, yep sounds good. Bye.

“Sooo, that was my friend, Dean.” He led me through the house to one of the modern living rooms. “He wants us to go out to the club tonight.”

“Do you even feel up for it?”

He sat on the long, L-shaped sofa. “I’m not worried about me. I think he just wants to meet you, though. I think all my friends do.”

“Does that bother you?” I snickered. “You look annoyed.”

Shaking his head, he laughed. “No, I just know that crowd is so different from what you’re used to.”

Throwing myself next to him on the couch, I grinned. “You realize I work in a strip club. My boyfriend was shot standing up to a pissed off gangster.” I squinted playfully. “He also has women telling him they want to have his babies all the time.” I snorted. “I think I can handle it. I have seen it all.”

“I don’t know, baby.” His expression turned to concern.

“Oh my God!” I jumped back with a wide grin. “You’re jealous!”

“I’m not jealous!” His eyes widened, but he quickly averted his gaze.

“Chance. Look at me.”

He brought his gaze back to mine. “It isn’t jealousy.”

“What is it then?”

“You’d be the first serious girlfriend that I’ve ever introduced my Cali friends to.” Palm on my thigh, he gave it a slight squeeze. “I’ve had girlfriends here and there, but they already knew them for the most part. I dated in the industry. These people only know of you, but they know how you affect me. They know I’m crazy about you. The others were just hookups.” He exhaled. “And to be transparent, one of my female costars kinda tried something with me when we were apart and she will be there.” He flashed me his palms. “But baby, I told her to leave.”

“I don’t care anymore.” I sighed, not needing to hear the rest. I could only imagine what that meant in his world and I was okay. “Are you nervous your friends won’t like me?”

“Not at all.” He curled a strand of my hair behind my ears, peering into my eyes. “I want to show you off to the world.”

“Then let me make you proud.”

“You already do.” He smirked, twirling a few locks of my hair around his finger. “You have no idea.”

Leaning my head on his hand, I closed my eyes for a moment, absorbing his touch. “I think it’ll be a good idea for us to go only if you’re up for it.”

“Why’s that?” He nibbled the inside of his bottom lip.
