“We’ll check down here!” Ice Man called out as he and Nico ran down the opposite hallway.

Luke and I ascended the stairs, skipping every other step on the way to the executive lobby. Throwing the door open, we marched into the quiet space.

“Ian!” I shouted.

“Ian!” Luke yelled after.

Nothing. His office was open. Luke darted toward it, while I raced past the several other offices to a hallway with other rooms.

“Luke!” I called out. “What’s in these rooms?!”

“Oh, no!”

“What?!”

“Safe’s open! It’s all gone!”

“What?!” I ran to each door, trying to open them, but they were locked.

He rounded the corner toward me. “The room next to my office is storage.” He nodded toward the six others. “He won’t be in those either. Shit.”

We rushed back to the stairs, descending them as fast as our feet would move. The moment we stepped into the lobby, Amber, Jade, and Jenna pushed through the showroom door.

“What’s going on?!” Jenna panicked just as Nico and Ice Man appeared from the opposite hall, shaking their heads.

“The damn safe was open!” Luke barked at the guys, ignoring the women.

“LUKE!” Jenna shouted.

He whirled around. “WHAT?!”

“What’s going on?” She lowered her voice and her lip quivered.

“You girls need to get back in there, now!” he yelled back at her. “Jen, please!” He raced across the lobby, zig-zagging through the sitting area, hopping over a chair. Hurling the main door open, he froze just outside the entrance.

“Shit.” I bumped into him, coming to an abrupt halt, forcing him to stumble forward.

Ian stood outside a red sedan with a duffle bag in his hand. Glancing back over his shoulder with a solemn expression, he shook his head before turning back to the car. The back passenger side door opened. The car was too dark inside to identify anyone. He bowed his head, tapping his finger on his thigh three times before getting in, and closing the door. He was now hidden by the tint on the back windows.

“Ian!” Luke hollered across the parking lot, throwing his arms out. “What the fuck are you doing?!”

The front passenger window lowered.

Luke and I drew our guns, aiming at the car. Alejandro leaned forward, revealing himself in the front seat. I rushed toward them, but Luke grabbed me, yanking me back.

“Stop,” he muttered, lowering his pistol.

A sinister grin inched onto Alejandro’s face. “Listen to your friend.”

“Ian!” I shouted.

The car pulled away, and I shoved my gun back into my waistband, throwing my hands in the air just as Ice Man and Nico rushed out the door.

“They’re going to fucking kill him!” I roared. “I’ve had enou—”

POP! POP! POP!

Luke grabbed me, pulling me down as we spun around toward the car.
