“Relax,” he smiles and suddenly I’m fine. He takes one of my feet in each hand, holds up one of my legs by the ankle, and kisses it up to my knee. If he were to look, he would definitely see everything under my dress. And my muscles clench all over again.

Yep, he’s looking. I can tell. Bumps crawl over my skin where his eyes roam over me. The electrifying tips of his fingers slowly trail up to my hip and into my panties while his lips slowly kiss up the inside of my thigh. “Don’t be nervous, Allie. You’re so beautiful.”

His hungry eyes ask for more. I want this; I want Lucas.

He sets my leg back down on the bed and Lucas pulls his shirt over his head, dropping it to the side. His muscles are hard from his chest down to his defined abs. Of course, they look perfect up close. He has a tattoo on his chest that saysfinis vitae sed non amoris.

“What does that mean?”

He looks down, frowning. “End of life, but not of love. It’s for my mom.”

“Oh,” is all I can get out before he crawls back over me and kisses me again. This I can handle. I know what I’m doing. Rather, I thought I did. This is more than kissing. There’s hunger and need, lighting fires between us. He grinds his hips against me, and my body jumps at the feel of something hard pressing into me.

Lucas lifts the bottom of my dress up to my hips while he kisses me deeper, his tongue finding mine. I’m nervous about the fact I’m not what he’s used to—experienced and in perfect condition—but he acts like it doesn’t matter to him.

The sound of a car door shutting outside forces me out from under him. “My dad’s home, Lucas.” His whistling carries from outside and into my bedroom. “I can’t...”

Oh, my gosh.

Ted.

That’s cheating. I kissed Lucas... and he touched things...

Oh no.

“I need to go.”

“Allie, wait—”

I don’t even know where I’m going, but I can’t do this with him. I have Ted. He has Kat. We cheated. We cheated with each other.

This is so messed up.

Chapter26

Lucas

Did this girl run track? I’ve never seen someone run as fast as she did down the stairs and out the front door to get away from me.

She shoved past her dad without a word and ran straight for her car without shoes on. I made it to the bottom of the stairs with enough time to realize she didn’t even grab her keys. She can’t go anywhere.

She’s just sitting there.

Why? What the hell did I do? I thought she wanted this.

“Lucas?” Tom comes up from behind me and shuts the door, closing me off from her. “I see you took my advice and threw it in the trash.”

“Huh?” I need to talk to her. I don’t have time for whatever this is.

He puts a hand to my chest, stopping me on my way out. “Lucas, I realize you’re not used to dealing with smart women or ones with a slight sense of morality, but judging by the way she ran outside without shoes on or any coherent thought, you screwed up.”

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” I know he’s my boss and her father, but even he said he wouldn’t be against this.

“I told you to get yourself together before you end up screwing things up again. In the last twenty-four hours, did you get rid of your pest problem?”

It takes a minute to realize he means Kat. “No.”

“And did she and her longtime friend-turned-boyfriend break up?”
