“It’s true. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d commed their offices several times a day, but they did take a planetary cruise. Better still, they enjoyed it.” Avir chuckled.

“They don’t usually take vacations?” Matt was mystified why Kom thought it was a big deal.

Avir sighed. “There’s dedication to your work, then there’s my parents. They were determined I’d follow in their footsteps, and I rebelled for years. I’m happy to say our relationship isn’t as rocky as when I was your age. We actually get along more often than not now.”

“What convinced you to go into business if you were against it?”

“I discovered I enjoy it, when I do it my way. After a few blowups, my parents learned to let me live my life as I see fit. With the pressure off, I learned to listen to the good advice they offer.”

Matt gazed at Masok, who’d sat next to Kom. “What about your parents? Doting or driven for you succeed?”

“My childhood was a happy medium, I’m glad to say. They were happy for me to choose what I wanted to do with my life, but I had to apply myself to my studies and work.”

“They sound nice.”

“They might fawn over you when you meet…you’re too adorable for them not to…but they’ll let you eat what you want.”

Avir laughed. Kom groaned. “If Matt asks for a restraining order on my mother, I won’t blame him.”

Masok tugged Kom’s hair affectionately, then eyed Matt. His sobering expression warned Matt of what was to come. “Kom filled us in on some of what you had to deal where your father Sven was concerned, particularly after your mother died. You have no intention of reuniting with him?”

“He’s the reason I kept on the move and why it was hard for Kom to find me. It would be easy for them, now I’m here.” A painful weight like a jagged rock settled in Matt’s gut. “I don’t want him or my uncle to catch up to me. It would be awful if they did.”

A vision of the monster flickered at the corners of his consciousness. Not his face, but his fists, the knuckles cracked and covered in blood.

Matt swallowed. “I never want to see Sven Larsen again.”

It was late when Matt had the opportunity to speak to Kom alone. The Nobek was in the kitchen, rooting in what Kalquorians called a cooling unit, a refrigerator in Matt’s vernacular.

Matt wasn’t sure why he was shy to speak his request in Avir’s and Masok’s hearing. They knew he needed help sleeping, and he was supposed to use medication every few nights. Nonetheless, he cringed at the thought.

“Hey. I was wondering if I should take a sedative tonight.” He kept his tone light, pretending it was no big deal. It shouldn’t have been, but he couldn’t shake the sense he was weak for having to rely on medication.

“Yeah, it’s been a couple nights. Shit, we need to get you more, don’t we? How much do you have left?” Kom closed the unit’s door, the roasted haunch of some animal clutched in his fist. He looked barbaric, and Matt’s cock stirred. Any hint of Kom being feral excited him.

He cleared his throat. “Plenty. A month’s worth.”

“Good. Talking about the parents got to you?”

“I’m fine, but being reminded ofhimtends to make the nightmares worse.”

“My offer to go to Mercy Colony and put him out of your misery still stands.” There was no sign of humor from Kom. Matt half-believed he’d indeed snap his father’s neck if the opportunity arose.

His thoughts were heavy so close to bedtime, aided by a sedative or not. “You’re sexy in beast mode, you know.”

“Am I?” The sudden heat in Kom’s eyes woke arousal despite the conversation they’d been having. So much so, that when the Nobek’s hand cupped Matt’s crotch, he found him semi-hard.

Kom returned the roast meat to the fridge, rubbing Matt as he squirmed the whole while. Excitement sizzled, but Matt’s gaze skipped to the doorway leading to the corridor. “Stop.”

“Your monster isn’t here, pretty man. Avir and Masok are, though. Maybe they’ll come in to find me snacking on sweet Earther cock.” Kom pulled open the crotch of Matt’s pants and reached in for him.

“Don’t.” Matt pushed against him. His hips jerked, pushing him deeper into Kom’s grip. He couldn’t shut off the protests despite there being nothing to be afraid of. Despite wanting Kom to never quit.

“I will, and you can’t stop me. Fight me, if it’ll help you cope with those fears. It excites me anyway. Make me work for it, but you’ll come for me, little man. You always do.”

Kom lifted him effortlessly, sitting him on the counter. Then he was on him, sucking Matt’s shaft with brutal demand. Matt’s cry rang loud, and he kicked. He grabbed handfuls of Kom’s long hair and yanked, his gaze bouncing between the dark head moving over his lap and the doorways to dining room and hall.

Kom sucked harder. He massaged Matt’s balls, bringing greater heat. Matt squealed and tried to wriggle loose from his grasp as eager need doubled, tripled.
