My cock stirred as my imagination ran wild. I could almost feel her satin soft lips at my thigh, her fangs piercing my skin.

“Antoine?”

“Sorry.” I shook my head. “Your body goes through a transformation. Your internal organs need to change for you to have eternal life. Your blood will be different and become Hybrid blood.”

“Hybrid blood? What does that mean?”

“You’ll have angel and vampire blood, and vampire venom.”

She shrugged. “I’m not sure how I feel about having blood from different species inside me. Will it feel different?”

“No. No, Donna, it won’t feel any different at all. After we share our blood though…” I cleared my throat and continued, “you’ll start to feel discomfort.”

“Why do I get the impression you’re glossing over it? Come on, Antoine. You need to give meallthe facts.”

I should have known she’d catch me out.

Running a hand through my hair, I swallowed loudly. “The process is extremely painful. You’ll experience vomiting and profuse sweating. This carries on for around twenty-four hours.”

Her anxiety beat at me.

“Will I be left alone when this happens?”

“Hell, no. I’ll be with you every step of the way.”

“I’m not sure I want you to see me in that state. God, it sounds horrendous.”

“Listen to me, Donna. It’s my role to care for you in any capacity. I will not let you go through the transformation on your own.”

Her eyes misted over. “Even though I don’t want you to see me like that, I’m glad I won’t be alone. I’ve been alone for far too long.”

“You won’t be anymore,” I assured her.

“So, what happens next?”

“You’ll need sleep to allow your body time to rest after the transformation.”

“Then will I have wings like you?” Her eyes were sparkling now.

I kissed her cheek. “Yes, and you’ll be even more beautiful than you are now. I can’t wait to see you like that.”

“Okay, that’s a lot for me to handle. Can you give me some time?”

“Of course.”

What I didn’t want to tell her was that she had to decide soon. Now Gustav knew I had my mate, he’d be pulling out all the stops to get to her in the hope of destroying us both. He’d made an attempt using one of his familiars. Next time, and there would be a next time, it would be one of his lesser demons or himself. And until Donna and I were bonded, we wouldn’t be able to destroy him outright.

Antoine had given me a lot to think about. I’d wanted to study more of the histories, but my head was buzzing. He sat beside me, feathering the inside of my wrist with reassuring caresses. There was so much more I wanted to ask, but until I came to terms with this whole bond, conversion, transformation, or whatever you wanted to call it, the thought of more information was guaranteed to fry my brain.

“Do you want to get out of here for a while?” Antoine asked.

“What, like go for a walk by the sea do you mean?”

A faraway expression appeared in his eyes. He refocused on me, his grin wide now.
