“Fuck, Donna! You’re going to drive me to insanity. Stop it.”
“Aw, poor baby. Hurry back. I’m dressed and ready to go flying.”
She touched my mind with a caress, and I smiled, despite the fact she was driving me out of my ever-loving mind with lust.
“Are you okay, Antoine?”
I saw Jeanie at the bottom of the stairs.
“Yeah, I’m good. We were just getting one of the special tops out so Donna can go flying.”
And just like that, my face went up in flames and Jeanie smothered a smile.
“Anyway, what did you want?”
“Sorry. You know I wouldn’t have interrupted unless it was urgent. I’ve just had a call from Isabella.”
I should have known this would happen. Clement always sensed when a couple had mated. And now I knew what was coming next.
“It’s about the ball to welcome Donna to our world, isn’t it?”
She indicated that I should follow her and, as usual, we ended up in the kitchen, where Mac was already waiting for us. He slid a mug of my favourite coffee over to me. I accepted it with thanks and sat next to him.
“Isabella said they want to hold it next week.”
I groaned and rubbed at my chin.
“Are you okay?”
I should’ve known she’d pick up on my anxiety.
“I’m fine. Can you come to the kitchen?”
“On my way.”
“I’ve asked her to join us. I don’t want to do this behind her back.”
Jeanie nodded her approval. “I’ll pour her a cup of tea.”
“Hey, what are you guys up to in here?”
Each time I saw her, my heart burned for her a little more.
“Mine too.”
“So, what’s up?”
“There’s something I haven’t told you about after our bond.”
“That sounds ominous. Come on then, spill.” She smiled, but her eyes were tight.
I coughed. “After a pair bond for life there’s a ceremony. It’s attended by vampires, other bonded pairs, and unmated Hybrids. It’s kind of like a welcome to the family thing.”
“Okaaay, then why the long face?” She studied me carefully.
“It’s a big deal in our world, so it’s a huge ball. Clement will be there too.”
“Oh, God. Ihateparties. Can I cry off with a headache?”
