“It won’t bite you.”

She turned her attention to him, her face amused and with a smile on her lips. “Are you sure? It looks quite hungry.”

She quickly turned back to the plane where staff were already handling their luggage. He loved her spontaneous fierce side, something she didn’t show often with them. She probably only held back afraid she would lose her job.

“Gwendoline, we’re ready,” Rayen called for her.

She quickly jumped up and walked over to Amon and Rayen. Silas followed them onto the tarmac and into the plane. Gwen eyed the inside curiously, if not a little apprehensively. She looked around as if she wasn’t sure where to sit down.

Silas sat next to Rayen in an armchair while Amon hid in the back with his tablet already in his hands.

Rayen pointed at a chair opposite of him and Silas. “Come sit with us Gwendoline, no need to hide.”

She nodded and sat down next to the window. Her heart was racing in her chest, the veins on her neck deliciously popping out with each pump of her heart. She clenched her hands on the armrests and looked out the window, watching the plane roll over the tarmac.

“Is this your first time flying?” Rayen asked in an attempt to distract her.

She nodded, her eyes still fixed on the window.

“So, you haven’t traveled much?”

“No.”

She finally pulled her gaze from the window and looked at Rayen. She tried to hide it but her quickly raising chest gave her away, her breasts showing nicely with each rise.

“I only took a few trips to Austin and San Antonio.” Her voice was slightly shaking as the plane sped up on the runway.

“The riverwalk is beautiful.”

“It is,”she quickly agreed.

Her hands clenched the armrests so hard that her knuckles faded to white. If she didn’t calm down her veins would explode.

What a beautiful mess that would be, Silas thought to himself and hated that thought right away. He didn’t want her to get hurt or be scared. What she would see in him then would definitely terrify her.

Biting her lip, she looked outside as the plane slowly rose above the clouds. She leaned closer to the window to look out and watched them fly by. How she positioned herself made her look like the most precious being he’d ever seen, though her scent was her most intoxicating trait. It smelled like he was standing next to a rosebush, while biting into a peach.

“Gwendoline, I believe I have to apologize.”

She turned her head around and looked at Rayen in confusion.

“I never asked if you had plans this Sunday and made you fly with us.”

“Oh, it’s fine.”

“But you had plans and now you had to change them.”

“I was just going to see my sister and I can still do that next week.”

“Do you visit her often?”

“I try but there have been times I haven’t seen her for months.”

“Does all your family live in Houston?”

“Mom died three years ago, so it’s just Evangeline and me.”

Silas could hear sadness and a bit of bitterness in her voice, even a little hate. It bothered him that she seemed to be all alone. Since moving in, she hadn’t been out much.
