“We did, because we wanted to protect you.” Rayen was still running his fingers through her hair.

“I hated that idea from start to finish,” Silas pressed against her skin.

“We won’t push you away, or leave you, not unless you ask us to.”

Silas chucked. “You won’t want to leave us. We’ll make you happy, please you, keep you safe.”

With the way the two of them were caressing her, she had no doubt they would. Her eyes, though, were still on Amon. He stood stiff, still watching without showing if he cared.

“Amon just needs time, little bird.”

She took a deep breath and slowly nodded. “Okay, I’ll stay.”

They all relaxed, and even Amon seemed relieved. She turned towards the microwave and both Silas and Rayen gave her space to grab her food.

“Do you mind if I eat on the couch and turn the TV on?”

To her surprise it was Amon who answered. “This is your home now. You don’t need to ask.”

She nodded and they followed her to the couch. Silas settled in next to her, while Rayen disappeared and returned a few minutes later with a blanket for her and three glasses filled with blood. With Silas and Rayen to each side of her, and Amon on an armchair not far away, this felt like a dream.

She flicked through the channels not sure what to put on while they were watching. She wasn’t sure what they liked or hated, so she hoped a home improvement show wouldn’t bother them too much.

“So, is that something you would want to do one day?” Rayen asked curiously.

“Renovating a house?”

“Yes.”

She shrugged her shoulders. “I never even thought about owning a house. I just enjoy the before and after views of the houses on the shows.”

Amon turned to Rayen. “Do we have pictures of this one before we bought it?”

Rayen’s eyes sparked as he jumped up. “I believe we do.”

She flinched as he disappeared into what seemed like thin air. Silas laid an arm around her shoulder and pulled her closer to him. “We don’t mean to scare you; we’re just enjoying being ourselves around you now.”

“I know, it’s just weird seeing someone disappear like that.”

He chuckled as Rayen returned at normal speed. He sat down close to her, holding a tablet in his hand.

“These are the pictures we were sent before seeing the house in person.”

She took the tablet and slowly swiped through them.

“They, of course, tried to make them look as nice as possible, but here and there, you can see it’s in bad shape.”

He started to point out a few things in the pictures while Silas ran his fingers over her neck. The house looked dark and terrifying to say the least. The floors were covered in dirty, old carpet and the entry had been closed off to everything else. The guest house had been a barn or garage and the upper floor’s ceilings were rotten.

“The library has always been there, we tried to save as much of the built-ins as we could.”

“Did you fill it with books, or did you keep some from the old one?”

“We were able to save most of them, though a lot were in bad shape. Silas refused to throw them away and we had someone restore the really bad ones.” Rayen swiped further and showed her pictures of the construction stage. “We weren’t always here so our contractor sent us pictures of the progress. The bedrooms were small, so we decided to have a few rooms combined and make four large ones with good sized bathrooms.”

She giggled. “That bathroom up there is as big as my apartment.”

Silas slightly growled, though she wasn’t sure why. She looked up at him and saw that he seemed to be upset, though she didn’t know what she’d done wrong.
