“You look beautiful no matter what.” Even though he seemed to believe what he said, she didn’t trust his judgment on this.

“I’d rather not test your theory.”

“You might have to stay till later tonight. It’s a long drive and I’m not sure how long it might be with my family. Would you like to stay for a night if it gets too late?”

“You don’t think they’ll get mad at that?”

“They don’t have a choice anymore. Your pregnancy changes everything.”

She shrugged her shoulders and walked into the bathroom. “If you say so.”

“I’ll pack you a few things.”

She gave him a nod before closing the door and stepping into the shower. She had no clue what to expect in the next few hours. Although Blake had promised her that she could return whenever she liked, she felt as if it was a trap. Hopefully, her mind was just blowing everything out of proportion.

Still feeling anxious she stepped outside the shower and wrapped herself in a towel. Her hands were shaking as she opened the bathroom door. Blake had laid out a few things on the bed and was about to put them into a backpack. His eyes widened as she walked into the room, flickering with longing as he gazed her up and down, taking in each inch of her body. His stare made her blush, and she nervously bit her lip.

He walked over to her and gently laid his finger on her lip, pulling it from between her teeth. “Is there anything else you would like me to pack?”

She took a few steps past him and looked down at the bed. He’d laid out pajamas, underwear, socks, jeans, a nice shirt, and a cardigan. He’d already packed her wallet, phone, and phone charger. She grabbed a small pillow from her bed and put it in the backpack, it was her favorite to cuddle with.

“Just my toiletries.”

She walked into her closet and grabbed some jeans and a blue blouse. She matched her outfit with a brown leather jacket and a light scarf. When she walked out of the closet Blake had already packed her bag.

He leaned against the wall and took a deep breath as soon as he laid eyes on her. “You’re beautiful.” He took her hand and pulled her closer. “I can see that you’re nervous, but I’m here by your side and all your questions will be answered soon.”

“And you promise you won’t keep me there against my will?” Niev felt stupid for having to ask him again, but she was so afraid of him belonging to a cult and dragging her into it.

He took her face in both his hands and gently caressed her cheeks with his thumbs. “I promise to bring you back here whenever you like.”

She nodded. His touch was reassuring and took some of her anxiety away. As she lost herself in his chocolate brown eyes, the world stopped spinning for just a few moments. All she cared about was Blake, and how he instantly took her stress away. The tugging feeling in her soul pulling her toward him became stronger. She knew going with him was the right thing to do.

“Are you ready, beautiful?”

She took a deep breath, inhaling his mouth-watering forestry scent. “I think so.”

He ran his fingers through her hair, his lips forming a warm smile. “Don’t be afraid. Soon you’ll understand.”

She stood on her toes and reached for his face, gently pulling him down. She needed to feel his touch, taste his lips to calm her racing heart. His lips lovingly pressed on hers, her anxiety fading instantly. It felt as if he was the answer to all her questions.

He ended the kiss and stood up to his full height, leaving her breathless. He took her hand in his, intertwining their fingers and led her outside to his bike. She sat down behind him with her arms wrapped tightly around his waist and with a loud deep roar his bike awoke.

As they were driving, a warm summer breeze played with her hair and she fell into a trance in which nothing mattered but his touch. With her head leaning against his broad shoulders, she watched as the buildings flew by and turned into trees and open land as they left Clemont.

Her trance made her lose track of time, and she only snapped out of it when she realized Blake was driving past the little dirt road that led to his log-cabin. She started to panic.

They drove past the gas station where Berta had broken down and further north toward Hunters Village. After about thirty more minutes, Blake slowed down and turned onto a different dirt road. He drove right up to a big metal gate and stopped. The gate looked rusty and so did the sign tied to the gate that read:

‘PRIVATE PROPERTY STAY OUT’

Blake turned off the engine and looked past the gate into the forest that surrounded them. “Come out, I know you’re here.”

Niev was confused as to who Blake was talking to–there was no one else there. Blake hadn’t raised his voice and if there was someone there, Niev wasn’t sure they could hear him. There was nothing but old trees surrounding them. He put his feet on the ground, signaling her to climb off the bike.

“I need to give Seth a heads up before I take you any further.”

Niev’s anxiety sparked up again and her breathing felt heavy, as she was nervously biting her lip again. Blake got off the bike and stepped close to her. Laying his finger on her lip, he stopped her from biting herself, like he’d done before.
