Tanner followed her order and sat down so Niev and Christa could take a closer look at his body. He had a deep wound on his shoulder, and claw marks covering his back. Earlier that morning, he’d hidden his injuries under his shirt. He must have done so to hide them from Mayra. The wounds didn’t seem fresh, at least a day or two old. They were covered in dirt and the blood was clotted.

“Christa, what do you think? Maybe clean the wounds before I start?”

Christa nodded in agreement. “You can take care of Alpha Tanner while I start on cleaning the other men’s injuries to make this process go smoother.”

“Is that okay with you, Alpha Tanner?” Niev wanted him to be part of the decision making, not wanting him to feel excluded from any decisions regarding his own body and his men.

Tanner gave her a warm and encouraging smile. “Whatever makes this easier on you, I’ll agree with.”

Christa gently laid her hand on Blake’s arm. “Blake, be a good man and help me get everything set up out here.”

While Christa got everything set up, Niev started to clean out Tanner’s wounds. It took her a little longer than she’d wanted it to. She hadn’t had much practice and her routine was slow. Halfway through her process, Christa and Blake had finished setting up everything they would need outside. Niev finished her last claw mark as Christa started to help the second man in line.

“Do you have any other wounds you would like me to heal?”

Tanner nodded, stood up, and dropped his pants without hesitation or shame. He revealed a large bite mark covering part of his thigh and lower hip. It was inflamed and oozing yellow liquid.

“Why didn’t you come to us earlier? This looks horrible.” Then she realized her tone and quickly gave him an apologetic look.

“I understand your concern, but an alpha needs to be by his warriors’ side no matter what.” Tanner’s voice was firm, although he didn’t seem upset about the way she’d talked to him.

“That infection could’ve killed you. A dead alpha is no use to his warriors.”

Another outburst she regretted instantly. She needed to get herself under control, especially with all the men around, who were shooting deathly glares her way. They didn’t approve of how she, a woman, an outsider, talked to her alpha.

She quickly bowed her head and stammered, “Forgive my outbursts.”

His face didn’t change, still smiling with a loving expression. “True, a dead alpha is no use to his pack. Especially now, next time I’ll come see you and Christa sooner.”

His men seemed surprised by his words. She’d bluntly disrespected him, and he hadn’t disciplined her in any way. Niev was ashamed and tried to concentrate on Tanner’s bite mark to hide her feelings. This wound was different from the ones she’d seen before, and she knew she needed Christa’s expertise to help her.

“Christa, I need your help with this one.”

Christa quickly came over and her eyes widened as she inspected the bite. “She has a point, Alpha,” she said while beginning the cleaning process.

Niev wanted to watch and learn how Christa took care of the wound but also knew time wasn’t on their side. The faster she healed these men the faster they could return to the attacks.

She got up and grabbed a scalpel. “As you know I’ll heal your wounds with my blood. It could itch as the skin heals, even burn or hurt.”

Tanner nodded and Niev continued. She cut her palm and held it over Tanner’s wound while leaving the scalpel in her skin, as she’d done with Tristan before. His skin healed instantly. His blood vessels and muscles grew back together, and his skin renewed itself. After Christa cleared out the bite from all the yellow gooey liquid, Niev healed that too.

Niev noticed that the other warriors had come closer, watching her closely. They seemed nervous and curious, watching in awe as their alpha’s wounds healed within minutes. They seemed at ease as soon as Tanner stood back up. Tanner ordered the next man to sit and ordered the others to return to their positions as soon as they were healed. He quickly thanked Niev with a smile and rushed back into the woods.

“I believe now it's my turn,” a man with dark brown hair and a friendly face said as he sat down in front of her.

Blake leaned closer. “Niev, meet Kai, our lead warrior.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Kai.”

“The pleasure is all mine.” His leg was covered in bite marks and scratches, but that didn’t seem to darken his mood as he jokingly said, “I seem to be very tasty.”

Niev slightly relaxed and kneeled next to him. “Just a little,” she giggled.

He bent down and watched her curiously. “Now Niev, I hope you don’t mind me asking, but how did Blake convince you to go out with him?”

Her blood immediately rushed to her head, turning her whole face red. “I think it was the other way around, though I’m not sure how I did it.”

“Is it true that you grew up in the human world?”
