He took the blanket and snacks out of her hands and followed her outside into the afternoon sun. With her arm hooked through his, she walked by his side to the little grass spot behind their cabin.

“How were werewolves created?”

“If you like, I can tell you the legend.” Her interest in his kind filled his heart with joy. She’d been so eager to learn from day one.

“Yes, please.”

He laid the blanket in a sunny spot on the grass and they both sat down. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, letting her cuddle up to him. “Once there was a pack of wolves that lived at the edge of a forest close to a human village. They enjoyed watching them and were fascinated by the human culture and way of life. They decided to ask Selene, their goddess and creator to change them into humans so they could join the little village. At first, Selene was hesitant. She loved and adored her wolf children. She’d poured all her heart into their creation, and she believed they were perfect the way she’d made them. But because she loved her children so much, she couldn’t resist their pleas. She granted their wish and reformed them as best as she could.

“Excited to finally be able to be part of the village, Selene’s children went out and wanted to join everyone else. They were met with fear as Selene hadn’t been able to fully replicate the human form. They still had animalistic traits and that spread fear amongst the villagers. They turned on Selene’s children and wanted to hunt them to protect their families. Due to Selene’s magic, her children were much stronger and faster than humans. They ran into the woods and hid from them.

“The villagers went after them and hunted them down. A fight erupted in which a lot of villagers got hurt and even killed. The villagers retreated and Selene’s children escaped deeper into the woods.

“After the villagers returned andcared for their wounded, they noticed something strange about them. They felt different, as if something deep within them was pulling at their soul. They felt another presence within their heart. One night, the wounded villagers felt as if something deep within them wanted to break free. They felt their bones crack and their skin tear as the wolf within them broke free. They became the first werewolves.”

“What happened to the pack of wolves that Selene had turned into humans?”

“From that point on, they were called Lycans. Some say the villagers hunted them down in revenge, others say they retreated never to be seen again. Some believe that they went on and created even more werewolves.”

“So, the villagers’ children were all born as werewolves?”

“Yes. As always with these legends, there’s more than one version. Some say the first to be bitten and turned were the first alphas and created the packs we have today. Others who believe that Lycans went on to create more werewolves believe that Selene blessed the strongest ones to become alphas and control the rest of the wolves.”

“I think they all seem plausible.”

“Legends are legends. They can help us understand the past, but they never have all the facts.”

“Thank you for the story time.”

“Would you like to have some wolf cuddles now?”

She freed herself from him and gave him an exciting and hopeful look. “If that is alright with you?”

“Of course it is.”

He leaned down and kissed her forehead, before getting to his feet. He shed his clothes only to see her lustful gaze running up and down his body. He grinned and quickly let his wolf take control. His bones cracked and rearranged. His skin ripped and his muscles tore apart before his large paws sunk into the grass beneath him. He stretched his large body before laying down in front of Niev.

“You look breathtaking as always.”

She leaned against his shoulder and started fondling his ears. He closed his eyes and enjoyed every single second with her. They’d spent so much time apart that he now cherished every minute they had together. It wasn’t until the sun was setting behind the trees that he stood up and shifted back before packing up their picnic. She hooked her arm in his and they both started walking toward the cabin.

“What should we cook for dinner?” she asked.

“I honestly haven’t stocked up the fridge since we left last time. I think we will have to just eat ravioli or soup out of the can.”

He felt horrible for not having thought about stocking the fridge in preparation for her arrival. It was her first day in her new home and he wasn’t even able to prepare a proper meal for her.

“Perfect, we don’t have to prepare much then,” she cheered. “I’ve honestly been so spoiled by your mother’s cooking that I’m not looking forward to having to cook our own meals from now on.”

“Living with her has its benefits.”He opened the door, and she stepped in, walking straight to the back.

“I’ll be right there to help you. I just want to put something comfier on.”

“Take your time, beautiful.”

He put the blanket on the couch and opened the pantry to grab a few cans of ravioli. As he was heating them up on the stove, he heard her come closer and felt her arms wrap around his waist, hugging him from behind.

“I have another question,” she admitted shyly, a hint of nerves in her tone.
