“I thought about my mother’s words on the drive here.”
“You mean about moving closer to the village?”
“Yes. Would you like that?”
“Will that not be more painful for you?”
“Having you by my side has eased the pain to where it’s more than bearable. We don’t have to move into the village, but maybe a little closer would make your life easier.”
“It would, but I don’t want to torture you.”
“You won’t. It would ease my mind to know that you would have someone come to help you if you need it.”
“I like that idea but how would that work? Do we have to build a house first or is there a house no one lives in?”
“I believe there are at least two houses we haven’t used in a while. I would have to ask Father if it would be possible for us to use one.”
“I’ll only agree if it doesn’t make you uncomfortable. I don’t want you to move back to the village and be miserable all the time.”
“I won’t, I promise. Father has asked me to be more active around the pack. Before, he has let me do my thing. But now that you’re here, I have a duty to provide for us and the babies. I’ll be out working in our lumber business throughout the day, and I would feel much better if you were closer to the rest of the pack.”
She nodded and giggled “Maybe I don’t have to unpack after all.”
