Darkness encumbered her. But an orgasm set to be more intense than the last was on the horizon, so she chased it hard until she was tumbling over to the other end, where the vibrating colors had been waiting for her. They burst as much as she did, blinding her with the force. But even that couldn’t stop her from sensing when he was right on the edge, too.

She squeezed him tight inside her, then kissed him just as he tumbled. She stretched his orgasm just as much as he stretched hers, adding just a little bit of magical zap into it as they lost themselves in a moment that she would never forget.

“Where are we going this early in the morning again?”

Ruby didn’t answer Pearl’s question, feeling just as sleepy as her sister and not about to poke the obvious cranky mood. Emerald, however, didn’t share the same sentiment.

“James Magoo made it an official requirement that we report to him weekly from now on—except for Saph, who has had that requirement and has been dutiful from the start.”

Ruby bristled but did not comment, trying not to resent the subtle accusation. Instead, she held her head high as Pearl complained some more and Emerald kept pacifying, all while directing the blame on her. Upon arriving at the familiar office, they took turns stating their report while James sat on his desk and listened with half an ear. Pearl took the longest, taking her time and adding sweetness to her tone.

“Thursday, I helped Sapphire with the potions she made for Helga, who thinks it will work better on taming Milos since training the creature is taking too long. Friday, I cleaned up our house using my homemade concoction that eliminates any kind of stain with just one wipe. You should give it a try, Mr. Magoo.”

“Hmm. Thank you—”

“I’m not done.”

“You are not?”

Emerald pinched Pearl’s side, but the latter batted her lashes.

“Friday night, I went out with friends—the remaining ones I have, at least, because the rest are avoiding me like the plague and think my touch will melt their faces off. I met a nice boy, took him home, and let him fuck me behind the large tree in our backyard.”

Three pairs of coughs were let out. James turned red and narrowed his gaze at Pearl, while Emerald simply glowered in embarrassment. They remained silent while the man searched for something appropriate to say.

“Well, that’s a lot of information…”

“You are welcome,” Pearl said brightly. “Would you like me to describe what he did to me?”

“Erm, no. That’s enough.”

Ruby tugged on Pearl’s clothes, trying not to laugh. James caught it and turned those narrowed eyes on her.

“Is there anything you would like to add, Ruby?”

Ruby reflected on her Friday, which consisted of hours spent with Moon and keeping him company while trying not to think about Maddox. At night, she had sought the man out, anyway, only to find that James had given him errands, and there was no chance of them catching some free time. It ended with her missing him, replaying what they had done a few nights ago, and trying not to touch herself as the ache rebuilt until she fell asleep.

“Nothing, Mr. Magoo. My report is complete.”

“Very well. Thank you for your time, ladies, and do come back next week for your next report. Ruby, you can stay behind. I have some tasks for you.”

She got to the door, ears perked as Emerald and Pearl got into a heated argument over Pearl’s lack of propriety versus Emerald’s lack of humor. She hurried back inside, deducing that it was better to dance to James’ tune than to get in between those two.

“Yes?”

“I need my file room organized. It has been a mess lately, and I haven’t been able to keep track of what’s inside. Yesterday, a forest animal got in and made an even bigger mess.”

Her lips quirked as she tried not to laugh at the white lie, surmising that it hadn’t been an animal but two people acting like animals—with James leading it, she was sure. Then she sobered, recalling the wife in existence and trying to figure out if she could find a way to send the woman an anonymous warning—not her businesses, but women had to look out for other women.

“Is there anything in particular that you want me to find?”

“You just need to organize everything, but particularly that last row. The animal broke my shelf, and I just ordered a new one.”

“That must be a very strong animal.” For a second, her thought turned to Moon and her nerves jumped. But James’ adamant shaking of head relaxed her.

“Nothing of that kind. Anyway, label what you can and keep your hands off the glass section. I could organize it, but I’m just so busy lately.”

Ruby held her tongue from pointing out that his magic could organize the room with a few concentrated spells. Then it occurred to her that maybe this was a test, with James still not quite believing the praises Brian had sung about her.
