“Sure. Everyone will be there, of course.”

“Right.”

“And I can see your gears turning. I’m warning you, Klaus. No carrying to the dining hall. You do that and you’re getting a potion in the butt.”

For the first time, she managed to ease his look of concern with mischief. “Oh? What kind of potion?”

“Something that stings. And tickles. Although I could just tickle your side now and—”

He cut her off with a kiss, one that she inwardly admitted she had been angling for when she started teasing him. She opened her mouth and responded, eager for his taste and the way he felt against her lips. She tilted her head and kissed him more deeply until his hunger sprang out and a groan slipped off. On any other day, she would either be on the table or on the floor, where he would be ravishing her with all his might, and she would be moaning out for more. This time, Klaus pulled away first, earning her a sound of protest and dismay.

She yanked him hard for another kiss and caught him off guard, but the way he responded spoke of the hunger he was trying so hard to control. Her hands wandered to his stomach, feeling it constrict, then lowered to where she could already feel his bulge. A hiss erupted from him before he encircled her wrist and backed away again—this time for good, as he deliberately slipped away from grabbing distance. Sapphire pouted, even while triumph fluttered at the aroused look in his eyes.

“I promise I won’t carry you to the dining hall,” he said.

She blinked, comprehending that he was trying to change the topic by directing it back to the original one. She narrowed her gaze, assessing him in turn before she smiled sweetly.

“Okay. Klaus?”

“Hmm?”

“You haven’t touched me in three days. It’s making me kind of horny.”

Oh, if hunger could be a walking, talking dragon, this was it. His nostrils practically flared. “Oh. I…”

“Will you touch me tonight? When everyone’s asleep and we can retire to the bedroom?”

“Saph…”

“I’m tired of touching myself.”

The growl from him was primitive and sent electric spikes through her system. Then he visibly gathered himself again.

“You should be resting, not engaging in sporadic, strenuous activities. Here’s what we’ll do tonight: a hot bath where you can relax, and then we can stay in bed and get some sleep.”

“Klaus—”

“I’ll see to it that I’m here before dinner so that I can take you to our bedroom early.”

The man was gone before she could get a word in, shutting the door with a quiet click and leaving her alone. Astonishment hit her first before the frustration spurted in, leaving her annoyed and wanting to throw something. Sapphire fisted her hand before she could give in and waste her vials, her mind reasoning that either Klaus was just tired or just too careful. It didn’t make her feel better, but she gathered her breath and stood up, willing herself to focus on her activity and not him.

“I can just seduce him tonight,” she muttered to herself out of spite. “But then again, he might go leaping out the bedroom like he did today, like I have some kind of disease. Ridiculous.”

It was ridiculous. Sapphire couldn’t help mooning over it as she got busy before the task distracted her and made the hour fly by. When she stopped, it dawned that she had missed lunchtime and hurriedly set aside her materials.

“He’s going to barge in here and carry me, I just know it.”

She hurried to the door, peeking at the hall and feeling relieved when there was no sign of Klaus. She trudged toward the dining hall—and felt a hand firmly holding on to her arm as soon as she turned a corner.

“I was waiting for you to come for lunch. Did you forget? Did you get lost? Are you in any kind of pain?”

Silver’s voice was a combination of scolding and concern, his silver orbs checking her from head to toe before settling on her stomach. She inwardly sighed and smiled ruefully.

“Hello to you, too, Silver.”

Her brother ignored the greeting, still perusing her. “I thought you were going to miss eating when I saw you weren’t there.”

“Which means you were also late for lunch if you just found out I wasn’t there,” she pointed out. “What were you up to?”
