“Here I am.”

“I knew you would come back to me. What you did to Greg was wrong, but I forgive you.”

I didn’t do anything to Greg. He beat the shit out of me, and in return, Munsey and Bishop beat the life out of him. He got exactly what he deserved.

Raven and Rowan approach us, neither of them happy to see me. They blame me for Greg’s death, too. He wasn’t raping them. Wasn’t letting his friends pay to fuck them.

“She isn’t one of us, Sidney. Never was,” Rowan says.

My mom puts her arm around me, pulling me in close. My skin crawls at her touch.

“She will be,” she says and looks down at me. “I shouldn’t have excluded you. You’re my flesh and blood. That won’t happen again.”

Flesh and blood mean nothing to her. Although I wish things could be different, neither do I.

Ispend the next two weeks monitoring Taylor’s whereabouts and trying not to go insane. To say I miss her would be an understatement. To say I’m worried about her would be an even bigger understatement. I’ve driven by the Eagles’ clubhouse on a daily basis just to see if I can get a glimpse of her.

There’s a fucking ache in my heart for Taylor. A sickness in the pit of my stomach. When Mason and Sloan told me she stayed, I feared for a split second that she chose to stay. That she left me. She’s still mine. I just need her to come back to me.

“It’s taking too long,” I complain to Dash.

“Patience is not your strong suit.”

We’re playing a video game because we have shit else to do. We have a patrol schedule, but it’s not my turn. Mason has also instructed me to be patient. He assures me that Taylor is safe. That might be the case, but she isn’t here with me. She isn’t where she belongs.

“Hey, I got something, guys,” Tripp says, and I just want to punch him in the fucking face. “My cousin said there’s another missing girl. I think this one is legit. Not some runaway or pissed-off teenager. She fits the MO.”

“They’ve all fit the MO. All been a dead end.”

“I’ll get Mason,” Dash says and disappears down the hallway toward his office.

“Listen, man, I know you don’t like me, but I’m part of this club.”

When they emerge, Tripp goes over the details he has. Single woman, mid-twenties, no family. Like I said, it’s not the first woman to go missing who fit the MO. Could be another false alarm.

“Let me see if Owen has anything. We’ll talk about this at church tonight.”

I want it to be true. Not that I want another woman to be taken, but I’m ready for this to be over. Ready to have Taylor back if she’ll have me. I open the app on my phone and check Taylor’s location. She’s not at the Eagles’ clubhouse. I don’t recognize the address, so I look it up.

“Mason!” I yell, going to his office. “I think it’s legit. Taylor’s not at the clubhouse. She’s at a warehouse on South Street.”

“Yeah, thanks, man.” He disconnects the phone call with Owen.

“Should we go?”

He shakes his head, and I frown. Another fucking false alarm.

“It’s legit, but I want The Harvester. He’s smart enough not to be there. Keep an eye on Taylor and where she goes. When she moves, we move. Gather the guys, and let’s do a check on our weapons. We’re going to need them.”

I’m not the praying kind, but I send up some words to the man above. Please keep her safe. Please let her come back to me. I need her.
