Sloan laughs. “Right.”

“What changed?”

She glances over at Bishop and blushes. “Honestly? It was sex. We finally gave in, and there was no turning back.”

Sex. Imagine that. It’s the one thing Christian doesn’t want from me. I’ve told myself to give up, especially after sucking him off changed nothing. But I can’t. There’s something comforting about his presence. Not once has he tried taking advantage of me. None of these guys have. But it’s more than that with Christian. Tragedy brought us together, and not everyone can relate to that.

“Why do you ask?”

I shrug. “Just curious.”

“Girl, don’t try that with me. You asked for a reason.”

“I have a thing for Christian…I mean Munsey, but he doesn’t feel the same.”

Glancing across the room, I make eye contact with him. He’s at the pool table with Bishop. He stands there, cue in hand, and stares right back at me until I tear my gaze away.

“I wouldn’t be so sure about that. These men are stubborn, more so than your typical guy. Munsey doesn’t know what he wants or needs right now. In time, he’ll figure it out. Sometimes they just need a little push.”

“I’m confused. Do I give him more time or a little push?”

Sloan shrugs. “I suck at relationship advice. With Bishop, we hated each other at first. You don’t have that problem with Munsey. Your problem is he wants you but doesn’t think he should have you. You have to show him it’s okay. That there isn’t a damn thing wrong with the way you feel about each other. Then, you have to give him time to understand that.”

I nod as if I understand, but really, it feels like I’m screwed.

Munsey

When Taylor looks away, I take my shot, mumbling a curse when I miss. Bishop chuckles and sinks a solid.

“Going to Huntsville is a mistake. Does Mason really think the people behind the attack will just suddenly show themselves because they think we’re away? They’re too fucking smart for that.”

“Maybe it’s not about that.”

“Then what’s the point?” I question. Why would we leave our clubhouse vulnerable?

“Jesus, man, we’ve been under a lot of stress these past several months. We need the getaway. We’re all letting this shit consume us, and none of us are in the right headspace for a war, and we know that’s coming. It’s just a matter of time.”

I shake my head. “I’m ready to fight. I’ve been ready.”

“We don’t even know who we’re fighting. We can say we’re ready for war but we have no idea who our opponent is. Owen gave us everything he had. We’re still no closer.”

The Fallen Eagles MC is an ally of ours. I use that term loosely. If I had a say, we’d cut ties with them. Their president, which is also Sloan’s uncle, was being blackmailed into helping The Harvester traffic women. When we joined forces and tried to take him down, our club was attacked. Not theirs. Can’t be a coincidence. Problem is, we don’t know anything about The Harvester other than a woman is in his employ. Fuck, she couldbeThe Harvester for all we know. We have no description of her, just the sound of her voice. And the only person here who’s ever heard it is Sloan.

“I don’t like leaving the clubhouse in the hands of the prospects.”

“With all due respect, brother, the prospects were here when you weren’t. They’ve been busting their asses trying to earn their patches. Tripp even got us some eyes and ears in the police department. His cousin keeps a watch for missing women for us.”

He’s right. I don’t actually know those men. Mason brought on three prospects while I was licking my damn wounds.

“Besides, they’re having the same issues in Huntsville. We need to meet and see if we’re fighting the same enemy.”

Huntsville is less than two hours away. It’s highly possible the traffickers are working both cities. We already know this issue spans so much further than Alabama. Trafficking rings are everywhere. Our other chapters are dealing with the same shit.

But these people burned our home down. Killed our members. This wasn’t some random street attack or bar brawl. My gut tells me this is somehow personal for us.
