Chapter Five

Psycho

“Did Psycho tell you he’s met someone?” Chaos asks, causing me to grit my teeth.

Here we go. The arseholes around me are about to find their entertainment by picking me apart.

“Does she know you met?” Mayhem chuckles, with Riot and Chaos joining in.

“That’s what I asked,” Chaos howls.

I thought coming to the clubhouse would distract me from the fact that Evie has been released. It’s taking everything inside me not to integrate myself into her life from the off.

“Fuck you all, dickheads.”

“So, who’s the woman who has unfortunately caught your eye?” Mayhem asks.

“Like I’m going to tell you arseholes.”

Riot leans on the table, losing his infamous joyous smirk, and asks seriously, “Is she real, Psy?”

Throwing my pack of cigarettes at him, he dodges them, his laughter only growing louder.

“Until we meet her, I’m gonna believe she’s in your head. You remember when he met Sarah? We still haven’t met her. Why? Because she wasn’t real.”

Sarah was real. I met her at a pub, fucked her, and spoke once on the phone to her. The only reason the brothers know her name is because they heard me on the phone talking about her to Lexi. I was only sharing what I’d been up to. She was literally nothing to me.

I ignore the fucker and snatch my phone from the table. I’m waiting on a call from Lexi, and her call would be appreciated right about now.

Leaning on the bar, I stare at the screen and will it to ring. I’ll show my brothers Evie’s real when the time is right.

I do what I want, when I want, but even I know, somewhere deep down in the slither of my soul that still thinks straight, I can’t bomb my way into her life and scare her off.

My phone rings, and I quickly answer it.

“You’ve made me wait, little sister.”

Her laughter fills the line, and I inhale deeply, trying not to crush the phone in my hand.

“Lexi,” I drawl out.

“Fine, okay. So I called her earlier to check in, and she’s not having a good day.”

“No? How so?”

“After breaking down, she explained she wasn’t allowed to see her son, and that she has little money to get food. All around, just having a shit fucking day.”

She goes on and rattles off an address, and I make a mental note of it.

“I don’t know what you’re planning, but as a favour to me, can you take her to the supermarket for some food? Fill up her cupboards?”

“Don’t tell me you’ve come to care about her?”

It’s not that I don’t want her to. I’m just surprised to hear her being… nice. Lexi doesn’t have friends for a reason these days.

“You wanted me to get to know her, so don’t start in on me when I find I actually like her.”

“I’m not starting anything, I’m just asking. You’ve surprised me, that’s all.”
