“Okay. I’ll come visit you soon.”
“Night, big brother.”
“Night.”
Hanging up, I slide the phone into my pocket and finish my smoke. Once inside, I lock up behind me and turn out all the lights on my way up to Evie’s bedroom. She’s drying off, and before she can grab a nightshirt, I move in behind her.
“You won’t need that,” I whisper.
“Is that so? You good to go again?”
“If I could live inside you, I fucking would.”
She turns in my arms and looks me in the eye. “What’s going on? You seem… happy.”
“I just spoke to Lex. I guess my dad’s dying.”
She frowns. “Shouldn’t you be less… I don’t know, gleeful about it?”
“Nah, babe. It’s the best fucking news I’ve ever heard.”
And tonight, I’m going to celebrate by sinking into the woman I love, and not giving him another thought.
