It’s almost like I have the urge to claw Meena’s eyes out for looking at him. It’s so randomly bizarre that I blink like a fool for several long seconds.

“It’s the nesting impulse.” Hex brings my mouth to his, giving me a quick but tender kiss. It’s way too soon when he pulls back, hoisting himself off the bed and aiming for the door.

Silence catches my gaze. He leans forward, swiping his long blond hair out of his eyes and winking before following Hex.

I have the unnatural urge to tackle him and make him fertilize my eggs. Which is so fucking random, I actually snort aloud at the thought. My hand runs over my slightly swollen lower stomach, and a warm fuzzy feeling fills my chest. I’m pretty sure it’s awe.

“How are you?” Meena asks, taking a seat on the edge of the bed.

My eyes fly to hers, and I shrug.

If I speak, I’m afraid I won’t stop. That I’ll spew how ecstatic I am while simultaneously being terrified out of my mind. I’m unbelievably honored that Hex would trust me with his eggs, which very much feel like my own at this point. I don’t know what the hell happened while I slept for an entire day, but my body is fully convinced that those eggs are my babies.

“Can I check you out?” Meena’s long, dark hair slides over my arm as she pulls her legs up onto the bed.

“Yeah,” I agree, blowing out a heavy breath. I stretch out so she can have access to my stomach. Her hands glow a creamy white with her magic. She slides them up under the hem of my dress, and I’m immensely thankful the guys put me in panties. Her hands rest over my lower stomach, and eventually, they begin to radiate with warmth. “How’s Nadia?”

“She’s fine.” Meena’s lips turn up at the edges. “I believe she’s tangled up with her own future at the moment.” She chuckles fondly. “I got a call from her late last night.”

“Oh, she’s doing okay, though?” I need to focus on something outside of my fear of what she’ll find.

Meena laughs, low and raspy. “She was quite exasperated. Although, if the growly voice I heard in the background is the mountain of an alpha wolf I saw in my visions...” She snorts. “Let’s just say, I’d climb his ridgeline any time. Well, if I was ten years younger, that is.”

“Eww,” I say with a laugh.

“Just a friendly reminder that you’re forty or so years older than I am.” She gives me a soft smile, running her hands over the swell of my stomach.

“True enough,” I agree.

“The good news is the eggs are viable. The great news is...” She pulls her hands out of my dress and pushes herself off the bed. “I recommend fertilizing them as soon as possible.”

“What?” My jaw falls open as I blink like a fool.

“Oh yes, that should be a fun endeavor,” Meena says, laughing. “You and Emerson will have litters before you know it.”

With everything going on recently, Emerson’s situation had completely slipped my mind. “Is she okay, though?”

Meena swipes a hand through the air. “She’s going to be mighty pissed with Nadia when she realizes she’s having a brood all at once, but she’ll be excited.” The confidence in her words leads me to believe she’s seen it before and knows exactly how it will play out.

“For me...” My head shakes. “I mean, can you say? I don’t think I should get my hopes up if...”

Meena freezes, her head tilting to the side. She doesn’t so much as blink, and my heart races. I push up on my forearms, watching her so carefully it feels like I stop breathing.

“I think you’ve got one more challenge to face. Nothing to threaten this.” She gestures to my stomach. “I can’t say more.”

I’m pretty sure I can handle anything, as long as my guys and my babies aren’t at risk. I stand, rushing around the bed and hugging her for dear life.

“I thought you might still be angry with me for the night we brought Emerson back,” she says, patting my shoulder.

“No, it all worked out for the best,” I admit.

“I knew it would,” she says, laughing. “Now, remember my advice. Sometimes I regret not living life a little fuller. I suppose you’ve got the gift of immortality on your side.” I open my mouth to speak, but she smiles, patting my back. “I’m just saying, don’t be afraid to truly live.”

She pulls me in for one final hug, and it really makes me grateful she stopped by.
