Saber’s light-gray eyes narrow for a split second before he shrugs. He’s generally easygoing for a sentinel, but both of his heritage species are known for being defiant and high-strung.

“All right.” Saber claps, spinning to face Sorsha and her mates. “I need to be able to speak to each one of them.”

“Come on, sweetheart. Climb me,” Atlas says once we make it into the hall.

I glance around, checking to see if anyone is watching.

This is dangerous territory.

It’s not necessarily frowned upon for employees to be intimately involved, but because I’m only one step below the owners, I feel like they have different expectations for me.

I adopted the policy of not mixing business with pleasure a few years ago, after I hooked up with one of the bartenders and it became a whole thing. Being a woman in a position of power can be tricky. We can’t get away with the behavior a man can under the same circumstances.

“Up, sweet fae.” Atlas gives me an expectant look.

I scramble up his chest and wrap my legs around his rear end. I’m too tired to care if someone catches sight of my ass.

Technically, I don’t know if anyone would even care if they saw us together. I used to be a lot more vigilant, but I’m at the point where I’d rather risk my job than gamble with the chance of losing Atlas.

It’s sad to admit, but I have pretty much no one here. I’ve got friends and co-workers. Certainly, there are people who would notice if I went missing. But with Atlas, it’s a different type of connection.

I’m so damn tired that it’s making me overthink everything. Not for the first time today, I remind myself that I normally do love my job. As my forehead presses against Atlas’s collarbone, I’m immensely grateful for my orc too.

ChapterThree

Atlas

Ali’s long, blondish-pink hair falls around my shoulders as I tote her toward her office. My hand on her ass tightens as I hike her up higher on my torso.

Fae females are tall and willowy by nature, but Ali has curves. I enjoy each and every one of them.

“I think we need a new profession,” she mumbles, running her fingers over my neck.

“Things will calm down once Dread settles into his bond,” I assure her.

“If he doesn’t murder Arsyn.”

I laugh.

No shifter is going to risk causing that amount of pain and suffering to their mate.

Arsyn is safe, no matter how badly Dread wishes to demolish him.

“Have you eaten recently?”

The soft tips of her hair brush over my arms as her head shakes. I already knew that, but I’ve learned that asking and gently guiding Aline is always better received than barking commands.

Being a horde leader in a previous lifetime, I’ve had to retrain myself to interact with my female. She grew up much differently than I did. Cultural differences have made themselves known on more than one occasion. However, I’m adaptable. I never would have listed that as one of my personality traits prior to meeting my flame, but I’d do many things to keep her content.

Including murdering the next person who asks for anything.

Ali is off the clock for the next eight hours. I don’t care who I have to slaughter to make that happen.

I twist the knob on her office door and walk us inside.

“You ordered food?” Her nose twitches adorably as she catches the scent.

“I did. It’s what I came to tell you in Dread’s office, but your luscious ass distracted me, and then we got sidetracked even further.” I bump her face with mine playfully until she grins up at me.
