In fact, she decided they were just too good-looking for her.

She found them in their kitchen, nursing cups of coffee. They had already showered, clearly from their still-damp hair…and their cologne, arg, dived in under her skin and rattled her nerves. She suppressed all that when she remembered what they had done to her the night before.

She poured herself a cup of coffee after delivering a very cheery and loud greeting their way. God, she hated that they looked like cover models in their tailor-made suits.

"I don’t know about you guys, but I have an appointment this morning at Petals and Pretty, so... I can take a cab?" She asked it like a question.

"We’re taking you." Came the ever-succinct reply.

"Oh, yay me," she said, laced with sarcasm.

Half an hour later, she found herself sitting in their massive four-wheel drive, heading to Petals and Pretty, her friend Sarah's very own beauty and spa place. Rayne couldn’t be prouder of her friend for following her dreams. That had made Rayne herself wonder what her dreams were. What did she want out of life besides her next pair of shoes?

Maybe she wanted love. Marriage. Babies. Happiness. She enjoyed her job already. It was more of a passion project that she got paid for than a job she had to force herself to go to. Yes, the only things missing in her life was love.

Things? The thought had slipped out of her mind innocently enough. Why hadn’t she said the only thing she wanted was love? Notthings.

She glanced at the men surrounding her. And maybe that was never going to happen to her. Maybe she was forever destined to be a spinster with killer shoes and horrific credit.

"So, getting back to the conversation I wanted to have last night before I was so, so, so rudely interrupted," she said into the silence. "I really think we should pool our knowledge and see how we can speed this up. I’m sure you want to get back to your lives, as do I."

She took a deep breath.

"First question. Did you know my aunt? Marjorie Bradshaw?"

"No."

"Not at all? You haven’t even heard of her?"

"No."

"So how did you get to be here?"

"Our ex-boss called in a favor."

"Well, who’s your ex-boss? Do you think he knows my aunt? Maybe they’re connected?"

"Our assignment was to shadow you for the next thirty days, no questions asked."

"Okay, but don’t you want to figure this out now so that maybe we can skip the thirty-day thing? Monty said everything would be revealed in thirty days. That’s a long time away, but we can speed this up if we know what’s supposed to happen."

"We’re just following orders. Thirty days."

"That’s it? You aren’t the least bit curious?"

"No. Not until the specified time is up."

"You guys are the worst," she said, folding her arms over her chest and chewing her lips. But silence was not her strong suit.

"Okay, but what about me? Did you know me before? When we were kids, maybe?"

"No."

She huffed and pouted, then was glad for the surprise she had in store for them as they parked right in front of Petals and Pretty.

Sarah was there to greet her, and since they hadn’t seen each other in forever, they hugged extra-long. But of course, Sarah was entirely too distracted by the three glowering, six-three men standing not a breath away from her.

"Umm…" Sarah nudged, her eyes sparkling with so many questions that even her red hair seemed to stand to attention. She supposed she couldn’t blame Sarah for the blush that had settled on her cheeks. Those guys just had to breathe to make women forget they were happily married to men who adored them.
