I quake with fear. This is bad. Super bad.

Rafe tosses the gloves at Alessandro and turns to Chung. “You know what to do with stupidity. Just make sure you roll up the rug first. I don’t want more of his blood getting on it.”

“Wait!” Alessandro screams. “You got it wrong. This is the real Morelli! Right, Priscilla?”

But I’m too busy watching Rafe walk toward me. I’m paralyzed with fear. I can’t even look away from his eyes.

Fight! Run! Do something!

But all I do is flinch when I hear the sound of Chung drilling his fist into Alessandro.

Rafe takes me by the arm and leads me out of the room. I’m relieved I don’t have to watch Alessandro get beaten up.

“Do you have to do that to Alessandro?” I ask.

Rafe cups my chin tightly and pulls my face to his. “I’d be more worried about myself if I were you.”

CHAPTER THIRTY

As Rafe grips my jaw, I look into his eyes to see if I can read my future in them. Is he pissed off enough to kill me? Can I convince him that he’s better off letting me live?

“I d-doubt he knew it was fake,” I say of Alessandro.

“Butyouknew, didn’t you, Priscilla?” Rafe replies with chilling anger. “Though I have to compliment you: your ability to lie has improved.”

I can’t deny it, but I’m not ready to confess yet. “Wh-why do you think it’s fake?”

“Because I happen to know the real Morelli was lacquered—more than once. There’s no way it could get nicely rolled up into a tube.”

Oh no. I’m done for. “Rafe, I—”

His grip digs harder into me, and I gasp from the pain. I try to pull his hand away.

“You deceived me, Priscilla.”

Whatever goodwill I had built with him is gone. What am I going to do?
