“I know.” Trini looked in the back seat, back to Ned. “But we can’t let you take the caesium, Ned.”

Ned closed his eyes. “Except, what if we could?”

Ford had also lowered his gun. “I’m listening.”

“What if we tracked it?” Ned said, glancing at Ford. “It’s already done. My phone is in the case.”

Fraser looked at him. Then smiled. “Really?”

“Came to me in the middle of the night. I dreamed I was in the middle of the ocean, at night, and suddenly someone found me.”

“Huh,” Fraser said. “Naw, couldn’t happen.”

“I woke up and thought—what if we could track it?”

“And you were going to tell me this, when?” Fraser glanced at Trini, who was nodding.

“Now. Right now, after you trusted me enough to let me do this.” He looked at Trini. “Wait. Why was there no security at the containment facility?”

“We wanted to see if you’d walk away with it,” Mac said. “And you did.” He opened the back seat and pulled out one of the suitcases. “I want to see that phone.”

Ned stepped back from the car. “It’s in the back. I’m not sure which one.”

Mac opened the case and stuck his hand in around the foam. Pulled out Ned’s phone.

Ned shrugged.

“All right,” Mac said, and finally smiled. “I won’t kill you.”

“Thanks.”

Mac turned to Ford. “Tell him.”

Ford smiled. “Fraser and Master Chief had the same idea. I’m tired of the Petrov’s beating us. They are always one step ahead. and when Fraser told us your plans, we thought…what if…” He touched his nose, then pointed at Ned. “What if we put a tracking device on this and let it go?”

“I gotta get to the airport, fellas,” Ned said. He grabbed the phone.

“Nope. That’s going to die,” Sonny said. “Let’s use actual tracking devices.” He pulled out a package while Mac opened the cases. They affixed the devices inside.

“Here’s how this is going down,” Trini said as they shoved the cases back into the wagon. “You’re going to deliver the caesium, and we’re going to track it. Believe me when I say that no one is disappearing into Siberia with nuclear waste.”

Ned nodded.

“But maybe we get our eyes on who is behind all this. See if the caesium leads us to bigger fish and maybe a glimpse at what they’re planning with it,” Ford added.

“Who knows, Ned? You just might end up being a hero.” Trini smiled at him, shaking his head.

“I just want my fiancée back.” He climbed back into the driver’s seat.

Fraser got back in the car.

“What are you doing?”

“I’m going with you.”

“No, you’re not. I need you in Alaska, getting me a ride home.”

“That’s your plan?”
