“Wait. I’m not ready.” I straighten, ready to focus on his finger’s movement, what he’s spelling out on my back. Griffin’s fingertip glides over my back, on one side of my spine, then the other.

“Was that ‘hi’? That was pretty easy.”

“You’re a novice, so I’m starting off easy,” he teases.

He lathers more soap and smooths it across my back.

“I’ll make this one more challenging.”

He’s right. It is. Not only do I have to identify each letter, but then I have to remember what they are so I can guess the word.

“Emma,” I say when he’s done. “That was pretty easy.”

“I’m not done,” he says, drawing a shape around my spine.

I think it’s a heart. His fingertip drops to my mid-back to the space that hasn’t been written on yet.

“G-R-I-F-F-I,” I call out the letters as he makes them.

I’m so focused on Griffin’s fingertip, the shape of the letters he’s making, that the click of the camera from behind us startles me.

We both turn to find Shonda there with her camera.

“I didn’t mean to sneak up on you, but that’s one of the best shots so far.” She smiles. “Clever use of the props.”

Before I turn back around, I catch Griffin’s eye.

“Emma heart Griffin?” I have to know that I got it right.

He winks at me. That single movement has my heart rate soaring.

Shonda moves to the table by the monitor and switches her camera. Kandi is back in her seat by the playback monitor.

“I’m going to let you two take the lead on the second half of our session. I might offer adjustments if the shot is blocked, but I really want to capture your intimacy as a couple. So as best as you can, pretend I’m not here.”

My stomach drops at Shonda’s advice to be ourselves. I think it was safer when she was directing us. But then a moment ago when I thought she wasn’t here and Griffin was tracing letters on my back, it was easy. Just me and Griffin.

I remember my parents’ surprise wedding shower and how smooshing cake in each other’s faces created levity for the stressful situation. I cup my hand and scoop bubbles from atop the water, then tap them onto Griffin’s nose, complete with aboopsound effect.

Griffin smiles up at me, his dimple in full effect.Click.

I gather more soap on the palm of my hand, this time shaping a pile on his head into a hat. It’s not my best bubble work, but I’m out of practice. Also, I should get an Oscar for portraying a woman who looks like she’s having an adorably romantic bubble bath with her husband, while doing everything in her power to ignore the feel of his muscular thighs beneath her ass. And the fact that leaning ever so slightly forward would align our centers. Viscerally aware that one tiny movement would allow me to feel the pressure of him against my clit.

I force myself to ignore the building sensation between my legs.

We laugh, we tease.Look how cute we are!

But with every click of Shonda’s camera, my thighs are losing the battle with trying to hover over Griffin’s lap. I need to rest, just for a second. In that moment, Griffin’s eyes find mine. There are bubbles on the side of his head. The ends of his hair at the nape of his neck are damp. He looks adorable.

I let myself relax. My knees spreading as far as they can go, allowing myself a moment where Griffin’s thighs cradle my ass.

The second I make contact I discover that the wet material between us disguises nothing.

Griffin’s erection presses into my clit. I stifle a whimper. And then I freeze.

But Griffin doesn’t freeze up. One large hand supports my neck while his other arm brackets around my lower back, holding my body to him. Tilting my head back, he kisses along the front of my neck. At my center, I can feel his hard length nudge against me. To keep from gasping, I focus on my breathing. Taking in controlled breaths as Griffin’s warm mouth works its way across my collar bone. God, his mouth is everything. Warm, firm lips mapping every inch of my skin. My hands move to the back of his neck, my fingertips teasing the damp edges of his hair, holding him close to me. I’ve finally found my groove.

“That’s a wrap,” Shonda calls. Griffin’s lips pull back, but he keeps his arms banded around me. My hands drop to his shoulders, trying to orient myself after the sudden end to our intimate moment.
