Why is he here?

He’s Griffin’s boss.

Shit.

What should I say?

Should I tell Griffin that I know Hunter?

How I know Hunter?

Hell, no.

“We’ve met,” is Hunter’s response.

“Wh-what?” I stutter.

My eyes widen with panic, terrified that Hunter is about to reveal how we met.

I know Sophie. Met her at a club in Vegas where she told me she wanted to lick my balls.

Not my finest moment, but that’s what tequila and pent-up sexual energy will do to you. And accepting a friend’s dare.

“Yesterday. At the restaurant.” Hunter’s brows lift. His hand releases mine and he turns to Griffin. “Sophie is assisting with my sister’s wedding planning.”

“No kidding. Small world,” Griffin responds before glancing between the two of us.

I do my best to quiet the sound of my heart beating inside my ears.

“It really couldn’t be smaller.” I laugh nervously. The fact that there are over eight million people in this city, yet my one-night stand from Vegas is my client’s brotherandmy brother’s boss is leaving me flustered. My anxiety is officially in the driver’s seat as the word vomit falls from my mouth.

“It’s like, what are the odds? Now I’ll be wondering where you’re going to show up next. Like, are you going to start popping out of bushes? Surprise!” I burst my hands open near my face with emphasis as a cackle escapes me. “That would be weird.”

Hunter doesn’t answer my delirious ramble. Instead, his lips twitch slightly before he nods.

“Nice to see you again, Sophie.”

Beside me, Griffin’s hand wraps over my shoulder to pull my attention to him.

“You okay?” he asks, his brows lifted.

“I’m great,” I screech out before clearing my throat. “Nice to see you, Mr. Cartwright,” I say, trying to deepen my voice to sound less affected, but I end up sounding like an unhinged phone sex operator.

“Call me Hunter, please.”

I nod, then confirm his request. “Hunter.” I mean for it to be firm and precise, but his name comes out breathier than I anticipated. And once the word leaves my mouth, there’s no stopping the mind-body connection that his name on my lips triggers.

I see the moment it registers for him, too. The flare of his nostrils, the short intake of breath between his full lips.

Hunter’s eyes study my face. I anticipate them dropping lower, but instead, he turns his attention to Griffin and hands him the manila folder.

“I just got back from my lunch meeting with Colson. Here are the updated contracts they’ve proposed.” Hunter glances at his watch. “Let’s circle up with Tanya at three.”

“Sure thing. I’m going to walk Sophie out, then I’ll take a look.”

“I can walk her out,” Hunter offers casually, not bothering to glance in my direction.

Griffin nods. “I’d like to get this started.” He turns to me. “That okay, Soph?”
