Page 83 of Accidentally Ours

“We’ll need to work on that one,” he says, setting me upright again. His lips find my temple, pressing a light kiss there.

Feeling slightly off balance, my hands lock behind his neck to steady myself.

“Yeah,” I say, still laughing at our poor execution.

But when our eyes meet a moment later, my stomach flutters at the desire I see there.

Hunter’s hands leave my lower back to cup my face. I swallow the last of my laughter as his mouth descends on mine, gentle yet passionate kisses that have me going from zero to one hundred in mere seconds. My hands slip under his shirt, my fingernails lightly scratching his abs while Hunter’s hands are completing a circuit over my ass and hips, up to my breasts and back down. It’s different to be kissing and touching, stroking, and teasing but know it’s not leading to sex.

Not breaking our kiss, Hunter lifts me into his arms. My legs easily wrap around his waist before he walks us over to the couch. He lowers me onto my back, then covers my body with his.

Even with sex off the table, I feel the urge to touch him. I slide my hand between us, to palm his erection. He lets out a low moan, rocking into my hand. But a moment later, he removes it from his crotch, pinning it above my head.

“Isn’t that going to bother you?” I ask as he kisses down my neck.

“I’ll take care of it later.”

“Don’t you want me to?” I move to sit up, but my uterus cramps, sending a sharp pain through my lower body. “Ouch.” I wince, gripping my lower belly.

I drop to my back again.

“What hurts?” Hunter asks, hovering over me, his brows pinched with concern.

“My uterus.” I groan. “Periods are the worst. That tampon commercial telling women to have a happy period…someone should punch their marketing team in the face.”

Hunter presses his lips together to suppress a laugh. Even though my belly is cramping, I can’t help but laugh, too.

When our laughter quiets, he asks, “Where does it hurt?”

I place a hand on the lower right side of my abdomen. He lowers his head and drops his lips to the spot I pointed out.

It’s so sweet, now my chest aches. He should probably kiss that, too.

Hunter rotates us until we’re on our sides facing each other, his fingertips tracing a path over my cheek, along my jaw and down my nose. It’s relaxing and makes my eyelids flutter closed.

And that’s how we spend the rest of our time together until I have to leave for my shift at The Penrose. Cuddled up on his couch, touching and kissing. Nothing has ever felt so good.

When I get home from The Penrose, it’s nearly one in the morning, but Griffin is still up. It almost feels like he’s waiting for me. Like a parent waiting for their child to get home for curfew.

“Hi,” I say, sliding my shoes off by the door.

He sets the book he’s reading down and removes his glasses.

“Hey, how was your shift?”

“Good. It was busy, which makes the time fly by.” I head for the kitchen to grab a glass of water and he follows me.

“We missed you at dinner. Did you eat? I made lasagna if you want some.”

“I’m okay. Thanks. I’m more tired than hungry.”

“I get it. That’s how most of my nights used to be.”

“Why are you still up?” I ask.

“Couldn’t sleep.”
