My heart twists.

I'm falling for him, hard and fast.

Is it just the pregnancy hormones?

Or was this always meant to be?

I sigh, a hand straying to my still-flat belly.

I have to tell him. Have to.

He deserves to know he's going to be a father, no matter how complicated our situation is.

But not yet.

I'm not ready.

We're not safe here, and until the threat is neutralized, this has to remain my secret.

Anthony emerges from the barn, startling me from my thoughts.

Our eyes meet across the distance, and a slow smile curves his lips.

My heart stutters.

Oh yes, this baby was meant to be.

I just have to make sure we all survive to see it born.

"Time to head into town, John kindly offered to drop us off so we can hire a repairman for the car or something and move forward," Anthony says, ambling over.

He rests his hands on the porch railing, caging me in.

With what I now know, there's a new tension between us this morning, a heated awareness that makes my pulse race.

Our last time together replays in my mind, the feel of his hands on my body, his lips against my neck.

I swallow hard, heat flooding my cheeks.

He notices my reaction and grins. "Missed me?"

I glare at him, but it lacks heat. "You wish."

His grin widens. "No need to wish when it's the truth."

He brushes a stray curl behind my ear, his fingers lingering against my neck.

God. I don't want him to stop touching me.

But, I can't get too close, not until I know whether he's to be a part of our life or not for certain.

I duck away from his touch and grab my duffel.

"We should get going."

He sighs but doesn't argue, following me into the house.

I busy myself packing up the last of our things while Anthony says his goodbyes to the couple.
