C'mon kid, pick up.

After three agonizing rings, Lorenzo's voice cracks through. "Yeah?"

"It's me," I say, turning away from Diana. "We're in trouble. We're in the middle of nowhere."

"Shit." Lorenzo blows out a sharp breath, and I hear papers rustling. "Okay, where are you?"

I glance around, spotting a plaque mounted beside the dry fountain. "Fargo, North Dakota."

"Got it. Look, the Montana safehouse isn't far from where you are. You need to get there."

"Any news from father?" I ask, with gritted teeth.

I hate the man, but I still need to know where he is so I can figure out my future plans.

I await his instructions.

"Well, turns out, there's a mole in our midst. Father was in one of the safehouses, and there was an attack there. We figured, had to be someone we know passing on information because once could be bad luck. Twice, it's a spy. He's now hiding out on his own accord. Even I don't know where he is. You and Diana ... you two okay?" he asks, gently.

"I'm fine. She is coping."

"Poor thing. Take care of her."

"Is the Montana safe house alright?" I ask. "Is it compromised?"

"It's safe," he says. "We checked it out and besides dad, me and Frankie, no one knows of it."

"Alright then," I say. "Tell Frankie I said thanks. I'll touch base when it's safe."

I cut the call. Diana looks at me with curiosity. "Whose Frankie?" she asks.

"A cousin of ours. A good guy. We're going to his. Come on."

"You suspect a mole?" she asks.

I nod.

There are no more words to be exchanged because even I don't know what else there is to say.

A mole.

One of our own ratting us out. But who?

I turn back to Diana, plastering on a smile.

"Lorenzo's got our back. Let's get a car and get the hell out of here."

She nods, eyes wide and trusting.

Together, we head for the rental shop, constantly glancing over our shoulders for any sign of Damon or his associates.

Just a little longer, and we'll be free.

Diana's hand tightens on my arm as we approach the rental shop, a dingy little place tucked between a barbershop and a thrift store.

The blinds are drawn, making it impossible to see inside.

I take a deep breath, trying to compose myself. I can do this.
