If I could remember who bleeds when, I’d explain the kind of witches there are—white, red, pink, and purple—and see if she’d tell me which one she is. I highly doubt she would though.

Glancing down at the finger tat, she says softly, “I’ve never heard that before, only that the moon was feminine. I’m a fan of feminine energy.”

“Me, too.” Lex’s specifically.

She leans across my center console, and I switch between staring at her lips and eyes as silver as the moon.

“You want to be a lunatic with me, rookie?”

“If that’s…” I choke down all the saliva building in my mouth like an actual fucking rookie. “Yeah.”

“From your bed?”

My eyebrows skydive. How’d she know—

Her lips touch mine, gently at first, then rougher.

She climbs to her knees, causing me to tilt my head back to accommodate her higher position, then there’s some sort of thump sound I can’t pinpoint. Ignoring it, I reach out both hands, ready to drag her over the console and let her ride me here and now, but before I can grab hold of her, she’s backing up…out of the car.

She set me up. Distracted me just long enough to unlock the doors and make her escape.

I growl, about to fucking follow her, but her grin stops me cold. Her. Grin. Lex is fucking grinning.

She’s still distracting me.

“You were in my bedroom?” That’s where my skylight is, right above my bed.

She nods, and says, “I was everywhere,” then slams the door shut, leaving me in motherfucking shock.

Everywhere? What does that mean? She went through my shit?

Lex pulls away in her Range Rover with an innocent little wave and a double honk that has me shaking my head.

She went through my shit. My question now is, how much?

I head home to find out, the entire drive something telling me to search my dresser first.

As soon as I do, I see why. She took them—her black panties. Technically, she took them back because I stole them first.

They were hidden in the bottom of my t-shirt drawer, which means Lex wasn’t lying, she waseverywhere. Every fucking bit of it. The first person to set foot in my apartment and she searches it top to bottom. What a bitch.

Honestly, I’m not even that mad. I just wish I was here to watch as she wandered around, rooting through my things, touching them, maybe even asking about them. I would’ve told her, too. I would’ve done anything to keep her here, with me.

I know what earlier was about. Lex took me to the cemetery to warn me away from her true self, but all it did was make me like her more because that’smytrue self. I like her dark side. I’m drawn to hers because it matches mine. Her drive, her fucking ruthlessness—it stems from pain inflicted by those closest to you.

I like the other side of her, too. The one she swears she doesn’t have but was plain as day the moment she started talking about her mom. She cares for her mom the same way I care for mine—without limits. And that only comes from deep-rooted love.

Lex cares about me, too. Or at the very fucking least, my safety. Her actions proved that, especially tonight’s.

Tonight. What a night.

After everything that went down, we just…went our separate ways. Her to her sterile mansion, me to my peaceful loft.

I should’ve never taken her back to her car. I should’ve brought her here and shown her my feelings through my actions.

I feel restless. The same way I get sometimes before a big job.

Lex told me anything I wanted from her I had to earn, but that’sfromher. Right now I just want her. Luckily, I know exactly where to find her.
