It was all Hruk’s fault.

Everything wasalwayshis fault.

But what could he have done differently? Last night, he could not have stood by idly while the three human men abused the female. He had beenforcedto intervene. And tonight, he could not have left the female to be tortured and probably eaten by the nith.

Sometimes Hruk felt as if the universe was playing a cruel game with him.

He wondered what misfortune would befall the female next as a result of his curse.

Hruk hurried down the dark, narrow cleft in the rocks. A sudden anxiety swept over him. His heart thundered, and his blood rushed in his ears.

He should not have left her alone for so long.

At last, Hruk came to the large, natural rotunda in the middle of the rock, and a cool wave of relief washed over him like misting rain. The female was exactly where he had left her, propped against the stone wall. She had obeyed him, and that pleased the ukkur greatly.

But Hruk’s relief was short lived.

Something was wrong.

The female had been groaning and mewling when he left her. Now it seemed her unknown ailment had grown even worse.

Her eyes were clenched shut, as if in pain. Her small, blunt teeth worried her soft lower lip, and she was whining desperately through her nose. She writhed and twisted, her skin filmed with sweat.

One hand was on her crotch, and she was frantically rubbing herself down there. Whatever was wrong, that was the source of the problem.

Something was wrong between the female’s legs.

Hruk strode forward to help her.

CHAPTER 16: HRUK

“What is the matter, human?”

At the sound of Hruk’s stern voice, the female’s moans cut off abruptly and her eyes shot open, wide and white in the glow of the moon. Her face, already deeply flushed from exertion, turned several shades darker.

She blurted something in her incomprehensible human language.

“I cannot understand you,” Hruk said, approaching. “Speak ukkur. What is wrong? Are you hurt?”

As she had done before, the human squeezed her legs together tightly and twisted her hips to one side. Her strength and coordination were returning. But what was she hiding between her legs?

“No,” the human female whined in her funny accent. “No hurt. Okay?”

The ukkur felt a twinge of annoyance. He still wasn’t sure if the female understood. Was she saying that she was not hurt, or was she begging him not to hurt her?

Hruk moved closer.

The scent hit him. It was like running into a wall, and it stopped him dead in his fucking tracks. This was not the female’s normal bodily scent. It was something special. A pungent, heady odor that the ukkur could not quite place. It reminded him vaguely of the sea.

And it made his cock instantly erect. Hard as tempered steel.

The rapid shunting of blood to his engorged dick made Hruk lightheaded. The blood he had drained back there by the stream probably didn’t help. He staggered on his feet as if he’d drunk too much ksh wine.

“Gods,” he muttered. “Great gods…”

With his loincloth still tied around his arm as a tourniquet, Hruk’s bobbing erection was on full display, and that was right where the little human’s gaze was directed. She gulped and darted her wide eyes back to his face.

“Me no hurt,” she insisted nervously. “Me alone, okay?”
