“Goddess, are your thighs made out of stone?” he asked, shaking out his hand.

“That would be Wey,” I said, offering a smirk.

He rolled his eyes with a sigh. “I’m going to eat in the mess since I’m awake now. Will I see you for training later?” We’d all decided to skip morning training today, but go this afternoon. We’d done two weeks in a row without a break until yesterday, so we’d figured we were due. Most others only trained five days a week at most.

“I’ll be there,” I said. “Wey?”

“Hopefully, I’ll be doing flight training today, but I’ll meet everyone for dinner.”

“Alright,” Florin said with a nod, walking over to his clothes chest.

“Will you be alright by yourself?” I asked.

He rolled his eyes again. “Being human doesn’t make me less dangerous. I can take on any foe the same as you.”

“I didn’t mean because you’re human. I don’t want you to be lonely.”Well, he’ll never believe I don’t like him after saying that out loud.

Florin’s lavender eyes snapped to mine, and after taking me in, they softened slightly. “I’ll be alright, thank you.”

I gave him a nod, and Weylyn and I walked out of our tent.

Wey muttered, “Don’t like him, huh?”

I elbowed him in the ribs. “Alright, fine. I like him just fine.”

Wey bumped me with his shoulder as we headed to the same place he’d shifted to stone. When we got there, he gave me a kiss, then removed his shirt, handed it to me, and I slung it over my shoulder.

Even though I’d literally been pressed against his naked body a few minutes ago, my eyes still lingered on his thick chest, taking in the hard muscles and the plates along his sides and around his ribs. My fingers itched to touch.

Wey’s dark chuckle made me realize I’d been caught ogling—not that I minded all that much. It wasn’t a secret how much I wanted him. He said, “You’re insatiable, tiger.”

I met his eyes. “Maybe you need to work a little harder to satisfy me, then.”

He quickly moved forward, backed me into a tree, and wrapped a large hand around my throat—not tight, but with a little pressure. He crashed his lips into mine, taking my mouth roughly. I groaned and pressed into his hand, a shiver running through me. Fuck, I loved when he got rough with me, like he was letting himself go.

As I reached for him, he stepped back, pulling his mouth from mine but keeping his hand on my throat. “Don’t pout at me,” he murmured.

“I’m not.” I pouted harder, and he chuckled again, making me smile. He seemed so much lighter today. It was something I hoped to see more of.

With a groan, he stepped forward and rested our foreheads together, saying, “You’ll have to wait until bed tonight, baby.”

I scowled at him for using the endearment I used for him, but instead of complaining, I covered his hand around my throat with one of mine and said, “More of this.” Theon would be sharing Braz and Florin’s bed tonight, so we could be as rough as we wanted without fear.

His eyes darkened. “Yes.” He gave me a small squeeze, pecked my lips, and backed up. He rolled his shoulders, and his plates darkened as his talons grew from his skin. And then his huge wings snapped out, larger than I’d realized when I’d seen them last night.

He lookedfierce. His plates were so dark they were almost black, the talons on his elbows, knees, and wings were shiny, pulling attention to how sharp they were, andthose wings. Holy goddess, they were as gorgeous as they were dangerous.

Wey was rolling his shoulders again, likely getting used to their weight after going so long without them. His hands tightened into fists, then loosened, over and over, and I realized he was nervous.

So I moved up to him, cupped his cheeks, and whispered, “You can do this, baby. It’ll come back to you once you’re in the air.”

He nodded and kissed me again. “Tell Theon I’ll see him at dinner.”

“I will.”

He paused, staring at me with a serious expression and looking like he wanted to say something else, then glanced away for a moment. When he met my eyes again, he simply pressed a kiss to my forehead, then stepped back, clear of the treeline. Before I could ask what he wanted to say, he leapt into the air—straight up and higher than I’d ever seen anyone jump—snapped his wings open, and flapped them down before snapping them open again and catching the air beneath them.

I watched him as he lifted higher and higher until he was only a small speck in the sky. I hadn’t missed the huge smile on his face, though. My chest was filled with warmth at the sight.
