“I don’t like anyone else.”

“Baby,” he whispered gently.

I scowled again—he’d been using my endearment for him on me a lot lately, and it was annoying. Okay, that wasn’t true, I actually kinda liked it, but I hated when he used how much I liked it against me.

He smirked at me as if he knew exactly what I was thinking. “How are you going to get to know them if you don’t talk to them?”

“The only people I need to talk to are you, Theon, and Braz.” After a beat, I muttered, “And Florin,” even though I didn’t want to admit that I missed that little human, too. Even if the biggest reason I missed him was because I wanted to punch him in the face. Theon’s letter had read as if this was Florin’s fault, after all.

Wey grunted, then sighed as he released me and walked farther into the tent to begin unloading his weapons. “I’m not saying you have to become best friends, but you could at least find someone to talk to while I’m in meetings.”

Crossing my arms over my chest, I kept myself back a few steps to give him a chance to get ready for bed before I pounced on him again. “I’m fine.”

“Nica.” He shook his head, obviously frustrated.

“I said I’m fine.”

“You need to start going to training again.”

I scowled. “I only like doing that with Braz. He’s not here.”

“You should train.”

“I’mfine, Wey.”

I wasn’t. He knew it, and I knew he knew it, but I wasn’t about to admit it. What was the point? Admitting it did nothing. There was nothing either of us could do to make the situation any better. They were gone, and we didn’t know when or evenifthey were coming back.

With a sigh, Wey plopped on our bed, and he waved me over. When I was close enough, he grabbed my hips and pulled me onto his lap so I was straddling his thighs. I put my arms over his shoulders and ran one hand over his bald head, my other hand around the back of his neck, my thumb brushing his plates.

I couldn’t help myself; I leaned forward and rubbed my cheek along his. He sighed happily, so I did it again, even rubbing my chest against his a bit. I wanted to rub my whole body all over him, scent him, make him smell likeus. I was practically shaking with the need to. He’d been away from me too long, too many days in a row.

He kissed my throat, then cradled my face in his hands and met my eyes. “You’re not fine.” He cut off my protest with a kiss. “You need to talk to other people, Nica. You’re not even sitting in the mess during meals.”

“Now you’re checking up on me?”

He sighed. “Cedric came to me earlier because he’s your friend, and he’s worried about you. You have other friends here.”

“Cedric can kiss my ass.”

“No, he can’t,” Wey said as he removed his hands from my face and grabbed my ass, giving it a squeeze. “Theon’s the only other person allowed to.”

My eyebrows rose. “Is that right?”

He smirked up at me. “You aremytiger, Nica, so don’t even think about it.”

Wey had never outright claimed me in such a way before, and even though he was being a bit of an ass about it, I couldn’t contain my smile. Leaning in, I captured his lips in a long, slow kiss, then pulled back, leaving him breathless as I said, “As long as you’re only my and Theon’s gargoyle.”

I expected him to ignore me or roll his eyes or sigh or something, but instead, he lifted his gaze to meet mine with a serious expression and said, “Always.”

My chest warmed with pleasure as my smile grew, and I grabbed his beard to hold him still and claim his mouth again. He wrapped me in his arms, tightening them and holding me against his chest as he returned the kiss with vigor. My purr rumbled loud between us, and he moaned in response.

I wanted to tell him how much I loved him, but we’d gone years without saying it. What if saying it—admitting it—made him pull away from me? I couldn’t take that chance, especially without having the rest of our family here to keep him from bolting. So instead, I tried to show him everything I was feeling in my heart with my body. Even though it would be impossible to show him, or even tell him, how much he truly meant to me, I did my best.

I stood from his lap, but only so I could strip him of his shirt and breeches. Before I could do anything more, Wey stood and removed my clothing quickly before capturing my mouth again. I grunted when he grabbed my hips, turned us, and pushed me to the bed.

He kept his mouth on mine, crawling over me as I scooted back and lay flat on the pillows. His body hovered over me, not touching, but I could feel his heat. I wanted to feel his skin against mine, so I grabbed him and yanked him down on top of me.

Wey chuckled as he settled himself between my legs, leaning on his elbows. His hands went into my hair as his hips rolled slowly, pressing his hard cock against mine and making me shiver.
