PROLOGUE

ORLANDO

Ifucked my stepsister last night.

Not just fucked her. Debauched her. Humiliated her. Made her bleed. Made her scream. Fucked her in the ass in front of a crowd. It wasn’t how he’d expected his night at Black Light Roulette to go… it had been so much better. Juliet had been everything he’d ever fantasized about and more.

Rolling onto his back, his erection pointing straight at his bedroom ceiling, he tried to figure out how he was feeling in the stark light of the morning.

Last night he’d told Juliet that it didn’t have to be for one night. Then they’d gone to their separate homes. He’d fallen into bed, sated and satisfied and filled with crazy fantasies about how thingscouldbe if fairy tales were real and happily-ever-afters existed.

Well, happy-ever-after existed for some people, but what he and Juliet had was no fairy tale. It was a little bit more of a nightmare situation. Because the chemistry between them was undeniable, the sex had been so mind-blowing he’d forgotten all the barriers to a relationship with her, and when it all came down to it… how often did relationships really work out even when the romancewasn’tbetween stepsiblings?

Talk about a bad bet.

But maybe…

Because it did work out sometimes. He’d seen it. Especially with Black Light’s Roulette. Orlando had seen it happen on both the East Coast and the West Coast. Couples paired up at Black Light Roulette who stayed together, turning one night into a relationship.

None of whom were stepsiblings.

Yeah. That was an undeniable point. But some of them had been some very unlikely pairings. His friend Elliott, on the East Coast, had ended up with a sub that he’d previously turned down with some pretty harsh words. She’d hated him. Until Roulette night. Now they were one of the happiest couples he knew. Sure, it might not last, but there was a part of Orlando that really did believe in the magic of Roulette night.

Fate couldn’t be cruel enough to throw them together in such a manner for just one night, right?

His phone rang and he rolled toward his nightstand where it was charging, wondering if Juliet was calling him first thing in the morning. Maybe she was having second thoughts too. Or maybe she was excited and would help him get past his second thoughts.

Nope.

Mom.

His erection deflated.

Sighing, he picked up the phone and answered the call, flopping back onto his back at the same time.

“Hey Mom.”

“Hey honey.” Though her tone was bright and cheery, Orlando immediately knew something was wrong. His mom had a great game face, but they’d been through too much together for him not to know.

“What’s wrong?” He was too on edge to dance around the subject or do small talk. Just hearing her voice had sent a wave of guilt through him. Even though his mom hadn’t raised Juliet, he knew that she thought of Juliet as her own daughter, and the two of them had always had a great relationship.

And last night he’d fucked Juliet.

Hopefully he hadn’t fucked up too badly.

“I… you can’t tell Lawrence, okay?” His mother’s voice wavered, and Orlando suppressed a groan, throwing his free arm over his eyes. Great, hiding things from his stepdad, which meant that she was calling about his waste-of-space sperm donor.

“What does Cameron want?” Orlando didn’t call the man ‘dad.’ Fuck that guy. He’d cheated on Orlando’s mom when Orlando was only three years old, and they divorced not long after. Cameron married his mistress almost immediately. He’d gotten visitation, though he’d ignored Orlando most of the time, and Orlando’s new stepmom had been a bitch and a half. She’d been less than thrilled to find herself saddled with her white husband’s ‘black kid.’ It had been a relief when Cameron had started missing visits and throwing money on top of child support at them instead. The money had gotten them through what would have been some hard times when she’d gotten sick and lost her job.

Of course, that past money was the problem now. Cameron, now divorced a second time, claimed he’d overspent sending her all that money and that Orlando’s mom ‘owed’ him. Not legally of course, but ethically. And nothing Orlando or Lawrence had said to her had convinced her otherwise. All it had done was cause her to hide from her current husband when she was helping out her ex.

He was a total dick and master manipulator and as much as Orlando wanted to yell at her to just say no, he knew that if he did, she would not only still help Cameron, she would try to handle it herself. The one time he’d tried to put his foot down, she’d pawned her grandmother’s jewelry to help Cameron out, and had only come to Orlando when she hadn’t been able to get them back without admitting to her husband what she’d done.

After that, even though he knew it was enabling her to enable Cameron, Orlando hadn’t told her no again. It was a vicious line of enabling. She drove him nuts, but he loved her, and he didn’t want her pawning family heirlooms to help out his sperm donor.

“It’s not a big deal, he just needs two thousand dollars this time. Otherwise, he’s not going to be able to make rent and he’s going to be out on the street.”

“What happened to his job?” He asked the question, knowing the answer didn’t really matter, but one day he hoped that his mom would come to the realization that Cameron was snowing her every time.
