“Hold on to me,” he whispers against my lips. Onyx flexes his hips and pushes all the way in. My hands fly to his shoulders, my nails digging in. I want to pull him closer, while at the same time push him away. My legs lock around him, only pushing him deeper, and he groans. “You’re going to kill me, Jade.”

My eyes squeeze shut and he kisses each eyelid until they open again. I’m mesmerized by him. Onyx is all around me and I suddenly become very aware that I need more. My hips tilt up. His eyes widen. His pupils blowout. I slowly bring my lips back to his, kissing him sweetly, and use my tongue to tease his. Onyx begins to rock into me, in and out, slow and steady, long and deep until I’m used to it. Until I’m writhing underneath him, begging for more. I don’t recognize the noises I’m making or the way his name falls from my lips over and over again.

Our pace quickens. I get louder, gasping and moaning against his lips, against his forehead when he kisses and licks the skin across my chest, over my heartbeat. My muscles tense and I lock my arms around him as I begin to come. Onyx brings his mouth back to mine, his hands tangle in my hair behind my neck. He kisses me hard and hungry, chasing my scream with his tongue, while my body practically vibrates in his hold and clenches around him.

Onyx grunts and his thrusts become wilder, deeper, while he stares into my gaze. It's heavy and sweat builds on our skin. “Tell me you’re mine. That you trust me.”

“I’m yours.” The words come easily and it hits me hard. I am his. I do trust him.

“Fuck.” He growls. “You’re so fucking perfect.”

His thrusts grow slow and his hands clamp down on my curves when he comes. Onyx’s head falls to my shoulder, sucking in breath. My body hums against his. Nothing feels more right than what we just did. No matter what happens or where Onyx goes after the record is finished, nothing will mean more than this moment right here, right now.

I change my rules. I don’t go home.

I stay with Onyx all weekend, and I ignore my phone.

He sings life into me over and over again until all I can feel is him.

ChapterThirteen

Jade

“I’m just a little hurt he wouldn’t let me still come over the next day for a belated birthday dinner.” Harper rolls her eyes and slides her arm through mine.

I had no idea that the second part of Onyx’s surprise was that Harper was coming over the next morning for breakfast. He had made a deal with her that if he got the night to take me to the festival, she could have the next morning. My friend was none too happy when I told her there was a change of plans.

“I’m sorry,” I side-eye her, trying to look contrite.

“You are not, Jade.” She laughs. “All you cared about was the multiple orgasms you were having.”

My face flushes and I look around quickly before jabbing my elbow playfully into her side. “Shhhh. The vultures are nearby.”

Harper’s head swivels around and she shoots me an apologetic look. “Sorry. I forgot how hostile they can be. So tonight, I have you all to myself, right?”

“My place?” I ask and she nods. It felt so different being with Onyx all weekend. I slept without fear of nightmares. When I woke up, he was there; when I went to bed, he was there. His place felt safe. I hated having to go back home after school, but I knew I couldn’t stay with him forever.

“I’ll bring the dessert,” she answers excitedly and bounces in place next to me.

I shoot her a grin. “Deal.”

“What kind of dessert?” Corey’s voice asks from next to us. My feet come to a halt and I glance around.

“Uhhh…” Harper glances between the two of us. “You know what, how about you two talk. Jade, I’ll see you at lunch.” She makes a mad dash into school.

I’m vaguely aware that it’s just me and Corey. A month ago, this wouldn’t have bothered me, but it does now. I’m still angry. He’s my best friend and not once did he reach out. I turn to face him and my brow arches. “Birthday cake.”

His head falls and I see his shoulders move with his breathing. “I didn’t forget your birthday was this weekend. I just didn’t think you would want to talk to me, even if I did reach out.”

“I’ll talk to you if you can explain why you were such an asshole to me.” I shrug in response, gripping my bag tighter.

Corey lifts his head, his eyes trailing over me. “You’re right. I was an asshole. You don’t like when I get protective, but can you try and see it from where I’m coming from, please? A few months ago, we didn’t know anything about The Kid. Then I heard from Rip he was coming here and how dangerous his family was. When you started hanging out, I thought it was like us, that you were just friends. But then it changed and I got worried. I don’t know him, Jade. All I know is that he’s dangerous and my best friend likes him. I’m sorry I said all those things to you, I just…” He tugs at the ends of his hair and I can see the frantic look in his eyes. “I was worried. And jealous you were keeping things from me. I shouldn’t have said what I did though. He'd be an idiot to ever leave you.”

“You’re an asshole,” I tell him, my lips pursing together.

His head hangs down and he runs a hand over the back of his neck. “I deserve that. I really am sorry. I don’t want to lose you as a friend. I can’t just not care about what happens to you.”

“Corey, I don’t know what will happen with Onyx and me. I’m just happy right now. I don’t want to fight with you when I am this happy. And whatever happens with him and me is between us. If he breaks my heart, then he does. I won’t regret being with him.”
