“What the fuck?” I blurt. That’s not at all what I expected him to ask.

“I can’t explain right now, I need to know if I'm bringing Euro to you or not?” He doesn’t mention what the alternative is, and my stomach clenches.

Pinching the bridge of my nose, I squeeze my eyes closed for a moment. “I’m not trained.”

“I’m not asking if you are trained, Scarlett, I’m just asking if you’re more than aGrey’s Anatomycertified doctor?”

Uncertainty wars inside of me, but I find the truth slipping from my lips despite it. “I’ve done it twice before… for the Reapers.”

“Did they live or die?”

I scoff, shaking my head like he can see me. “Do you care? You shot them all to hell anyways.”

Of course they survived, even though I might have been a little unsure the first time, but the second time didn’t take as long.

“Shit, okay. We’ll be there in ten minutes. Clear the fucking Church table.”

The call ends before I can say another word and I slowly offer the cell phone to Emily, who is staring off into space.

“He’s dead.” Her words confuse me as I rise from the bed. I’m about to correct her, explain that Euro could still make it, but she must understand my confusion as she glances up at me through teary eyes. “My father, he didn’t make it.”

Before I even know what I’m doing, I drag her to her feet and wrap my arms tightly around her. We sway from side to side for what feels like an eternity as she clings to me. After a few more moments, she sniffles and takes a step back.

“I’m sorry, you go sort everything out like Emmett asked. I’ll be okay.”

“Duffer,” I holler, knowing he’s never far behind, and he peeks his head around my doorframe with a grim look on his face. “Stay with her. I need to help with Euro, but don’t let her out of your sight. Stay in here if you need to.”

He nods, so I spin to give her one last hug before reaching for my bag. It takes a second of digging around for me to pull the inconspicuous cosmetics bag from the bottom, before I rush for the door.

I barely take two steps into the bar area before Maggie is in front of me, a frantic look on her face. “Gray just called, tell me what you need.”

Shit, okay.Think, Scarlett, think.

“I need a fully stocked first-aid kit, scissors, a jug of boiling water, and something strong,” I add, pointing behind the bar. “Oh… and rags, lots of clean rags.”

I rush to the Church doors, but the second my hand wraps around the handle, Molly shouts for my attention.

“You can’t go in there, whore.”

I don’t even have the time to roll my eyes at her as I shout back. “Fuck off, Molly.”

Placing the cosmetic bag on the table, I unzip it to reveal pouches inside containing medical supplies I’ve gathered over the years for times just like this. I don’t know in what other world I would need them, but it’s imperative for myself more than anything.

I’m expecting more bullshit from Molly, but the main doors swing open and men rush inside, stopping whatever rampage she was on.

Maggie appears beside me with the items I asked for, and I quickly drop the stainless steel tools into the boiling hot water to sterilize them the best I can.

Murmuring my thanks, she waves me off, moving out of the way as Ryker steps in first, followed swiftly by Emmett, Gray, Axel, and Euro. The second my eyes land on the guy who needs my attention, the rest of them fade into the background.

He’s clutching his arm tightly, pain etched into his face as he pants through clenched teeth.

“Take his cut off,” I murmur, and Gray helps him do it, before I cut through the white tee he has on underneath.

My gaze instantly falls to the wound as Euro drops his hand. Moving around him, I check the back of his arm without causing him too much discomfort from the movement, and I’m relieved to see it’s a clear through and through. No fragments left for me to dig out. At least there’s a positive in all of this.

Grabbing one of the rags Maggie brought in for me, I dig around in the first-aid box to find the cleansing alcohol solution, and quickly drench it in the liquid. Looking up at Euro, his teeth clenched together and jaw grinding with every breath, I finally focus on the room enough to realize there’s a lot of fucking noise going on in here. The doors are open so that’s not helping.

Tilting my head to the left, my gaze clashes with Axel’s. Not the easiest brother to deal with, but they need my help. “Can we shut the door so I can at least think while I’m doing this? Please,” I add, and he nods.
