“Her music room?”

“Destroyed, Garrick. Smashed the piano, broke her guitars - except for one, I have that one, no instrument was left untouched. He even tore up the music sheets.”

Garrick’s jaw hurt. The more Bastian explained, the angrier Garrick became.

“And that prompted her to go to her aunt?” No wonder she didn’t want to go home. It didn’t sound like she had much of a home to return to.

“Ursa can’t be trusted. She’s been vying for a way to get back at Henry since their father died and put Henry in charge of the business. She’s the oldest, but their father saw her for the witch she is and left her out of it.”

Garrick rubbed the back of his neck. Family drama.

“If Ursa really needs whatever Ares has for her, she’s going to want Ariella to find him. How are we handling that?” Garrick asked.

“Maybe we should let the meeting happen. Then we can intercept whatever the package is,” Bastian answered. “You said we–”

“Yeah.” Garrick downed the last bit of his second drink and put his glass on the bar. “Thought I made that clear at the hotel.”

“She’s innocent, Garrick. She may not be able–”

“The girl is stronger than you think,” Garrick repeated himself. “Besides, convincing her is half the fun. You know that.”

Bastian nodded. “She’s probably going to need both of us.”

Garrick pointed at Bastian. “Just so we’re clear, you can’t be giving her rewards after one of us has punished her. It sends a bad message.”

Bastian shrugged. “She needed it.”

“We’re not playing good cop bad cop with her,” Garrick argued.

“Fine.” Bastian nodded. “I’m fucking wiped. I’m going up. I’ll make sure she’s actually in bed before I turn in. Wouldn’t be the first time she wiggled down a drainpipe to go out.”

Garrick’s eyes widened. “She’d break her neck from that height.”

Bastian nodded. “That’s why I’m checking.”

Garrick shook his head. The girl was definitely going to need both of them to keep her safe.

And satisfied.

CHAPTER13

Garrick

“You’ve gotthat look in your eye again.” Garrick finished typing a message on his phone before looking up at Grimsley, standing in the doorway. “What’s wrong?”

“You’re not going to like it.”

“Of course, I’m not. You don’t exactly bring good news to my house in the middle of the day. Good news is a text message. You only drag your ass down here when there’s bad news.” Garrick leaned back in his chair. “So, what’s the bad news?”

Grimsley walked further into the office. “Ares is still in town.”

Garrick nodded. “I figured. And?”

“And Peter has gotten wind of his return.”

Garrick dropped his hands into his lap with a sigh. His cousin had every right to be hunting down Ares, but his involvement right now would make the situation with Ariella more complicated. And he could use less complications, not more.
