“No! No!” She started to wiggle against his grip when she heard the car beep.

“It’s not a long ride, she won’t be hurt, but she won’t be able to get away either,” Garrick said, probably trying to appease Bastian. Because no matter how pissed Bastian has ever been with her, he’d never locked her away. Never.

“Don’t!” She protested again as Garrick gently dumped her into the trunk of his car. Immediately she tried to scramble out, but Bastian’s black stare stilled her.

“Think, Ariella.” He tapped his temple with two fingers. “What can you do right now to keep your ass from getting into more trouble.” He put his hand on the trunk lid. She sank back down, tears forming in her eyes.

“Please, Bastian.” She put her hand out, but the trunk closed, blocking the sunlight and their faces.

Moretrouble,Bastian had said.

She didn’t know what that meant exactly, but it didn’t sound good for her.

Or her ass.

CHAPTER15

Bastian

“You saidit would be easier to keep an eye on her at your house,” Bastian commented as Garrick drove the car down the last block to his estate.

“It should have been, but that woman…” Garrick gritted his teeth. “Someone needs to nail her feet to the ground.”

Bastian understood the feeling all too well.

“So, what did Ares give her?” Bastian asked.

“A flash drive. Once we deal with her, we can look at it.” Garrick pulled into the driveway. “I have an idea as to what it might be, which is why I didn’t want to open it at Ash’s place.”

“Peter wants Ares’ head for good reason.” Bastian reminded Garrick. Bastian hadn’t been around when Peter battled demons for his now wife, Azalea, but he’d heard about the darkness. If he stood in Peter’s shoes, he’d want Ares’ head on a platter, too. Ares was the last bite of revenge.

“I know that.” Garrick shifted into park. Gripping the steering wheel, he took a long breath. Bastian knew this as a time to keep out of his space. He was doing his best to remain calm. “She talked to him, Bastian,” he said after a long pause. “She was right in front of him and talked to him.” He turned his gaze on Bastian, fire blazed there. “He could have taken her.”

Bastian had spent the last hour and a half avoiding that thought.

“She needs to know what could happen if he were to take her. She needs to know what a monster he is, how evil her aunt is, and that her father allows it all to happen.”

Bastian turned away. Garrick was right; he couldn’t deny it anymore. Ariella was impulsive, but she wasn’t stupid. If she had known what sort of business she was doing for Ursa, she wouldn’t have gone along with it.

A thud came from the trunk—another thud, then a scream.

“She’s relentless.” Garrick shook his head. His grin counteracted the annoyance in his tone, though.

“She is.” Bastian agreed. “We’ll tell her everything. She needs to know. You’re right.” Destroying a girl’s perception of her father soured his mood, and it had been pretty rotten since he found out where Ariella had snuck off to.

“After we deal with her disobedience.” Garrick grabbed his phone from the console charger and shoved it into his pocket. “I told her what would happen if she went out alone. She’s going to learn– I mean what I say.”

Bastian studied Garrick’s expression for a moment. He’d always been a stickler for being obeyed.

“You like her.” As soon as the thought popped into his mind, it jumped out of his mouth.

Garrick frowned. “I kissed her this morning, Bastian. I kissed her, and she promised she understood what would happen if she disobeyed.”

Bastian tilted his head. “Did she kiss you back?”

“She won’t need all that convincing you thought she might,” Garrick threw open his car door and climbed out. Bastian grinned. It had been a long time since they were on the same page about a woman, but this felt different. Garrick didn’t usually like a woman this quickly. He lusted for them, fucked them, and shared them, but he didn’t grow feelings for them.
