She could hate me for it later.

Later, when she wasn’t going to die.

I wouldn’t let her leave me.

“Drink my blood,”I commanded her, all but taking control of her body with the force of my will.

Her body jolted slightly, and I held her face to my neck.

Finally, she swallowed.

It was the tiniest sip, but it was all the assurance I needed.

It was going to work.

Shewasgoing to survive.

“Again,”I snarled directly into her mind. She couldn’t block me out, not while I was inside her so damn intimately.

She took another small swallow.

“More, Nissa.”

She drank again, again, and again, until she was sucking my blood down desperately, taking all I had to offer.

My energy faded as she drank, but veil, I couldn’t have cared less about myself. As long as she was breathing, as long as she wasliving, I’d walk through that damn veil with pride.

“My fiery little human,”I murmured into her mind, stroking her hair lightly as I turned so my back met the tree behind us for support.“Our months together have been the best of my life. I love you more than I could ever find the words to say.”

Her beautiful eyes were cloudy as they collided with mine, and their appearance stunned me. One was the same gorgeous green it had always been, while the other was my dark blue. My chest burned with pride and relief as I slipped into unconsciousness.

She was alive.

And she was mine in this life, the one that had come before, and every damn one that would follow.

Chapter27

Nissa

“Veil. What happened?” Eisley’s voice snapped me out of the daze I was in, staring at Kierden’s face. His chest was still rising and falling, though slowly, and he looked paler than he should’ve. He was unconscious—but just unconscious, I hoped.

“I almost died,” I rasped. I could feel Kierden’s blood moving through me,healingme, but it would take time. “He saved me. Again.”

“You saved him first. And then again, too,” she pointed out, kneeling next to me and putting two fingers on his throat. She was checking for his pulse, I thought.

Near-death experiences were probably expected for her, at that point. After so many centuries of battle, it must’ve been inevitable. I supposed that was enough to keep anyone calm when another one arose.

“Slow, but healthy,” she told me. “He’ll be just fine.” She carefully wiped at a bit of blood on my neck, her lips turning down in a grimace.

“Where’s the Beast?” My head turned back to where he’d been.

“Even he wasn’t fast enough to handle an army of fae warriors. When it became clear that he couldn’t win, he took off. With the eclipse coming in a few hours, I doubt he’ll attempt to return.” Eisley’s gaze dipped to Kierden’s hand, and her gaze lingered. “The brand’s already gone.”

I nodded, still a little shaky. “Alida said if we sealed it, the brand would vanish. The connections are through magic, and our magic changed permanently when the bond solidified.”

Her eyebrows shot upward. “Damn.”

I looked back at Kierden, watching his chest rise and fall again just for the sake of my sanity.
