The next time Eisley fed me and the esu, she was even more worried. I didn’t mention her concern, because I was going to wake him up as soon as she left.

After the esu went to sleep and she slipped out again, I waited a few minutes to make sure no one else was going to barge in, and then I carefully rolled on top of Kierden. His wounds had only healed a tiny bit, but none were actively bleeding, so I hoped that was a good sign.

He didn’t react to me laying on top of him, so I carefully leaned down, pressing the top of my shoulder against his lips as I reached toward his mind.

Instead of his mind, I found… him.

His wholebeing.

I shivered at the intensity of finding him there so completely. His thoughts and emotions were silent because of the deep unconsciousness, but it wasn’t just his mind I’d found; it was hissoul.

We’d have time to explore that part of the bond later, though. After we were both healed, and conscious.

“Kierden,”I said quietly, into his mind.

His body stirred below mine, and a huge hand landed on my lower back.

“Bite me, Kierden.”

He groaned beneath me.

When I repeated the words louder, making them a full-on command, he finally reacted.

His teeth sank into my neck, and I gasped at the intensity of the feeling. It didn’t hurt at all—honestly, it was one of the most pleasant things I’d ever felt. It wasn’t like the Beast’s bite, where an unfortunate bliss washed over me. Instead, I just felt some mixture of joy, pleasure, and desire.

His hands found my hips as my life flooded into him. He’d given it to me first, though, so the trade only seemed fair.

Some amount of time passed; I wasn’t keeping track.

But then he jerked his head away, gasping for breath and rolling me off of him.

The world spun around me as he snarled at me—I was getting a lecture, I thought—but I couldn’t keep myself awake. My eyes closed, and I went back to sleep immediately.

“Nissa,”Kierden growled into my mind. His hands were on my hips, and I felt my bare chest pressed against his. A thick blanket had been pulled over the top of me, but it didn’t feel nearly as nice as the warm body I was laying on.“You need to wake up and eat.”

“Hmm?”I struggled to rouse myself from sleep.

“Open those pretty eyes, little human.”He still sounded angry at me, but I wrestled them open anyway—and then froze when I saw his eyes staring down at me.

One was his gorgeous dark blue… and one was my typical green.

“Veil,” I breathed.

Kierden swept hair off my face, then leaned forward and kissed my lips softly. He pulled away before the kiss could grow intense, unfortunately, and growled, “I amfuriouswith you.”

I closed my eyes again. “Tell me later. I’m tired.”

“You can sleep after you’ve eaten.”

I sighed heavily.

“Thank you, Eisley. I’ll make sure she eats,” Kierden told his sister, in a voice much kinder than the one he’d been giving me. Guess I earned his anger by letting him drink from me so soon after my brush against the veil.

I opened my eyes long enough to wave at her, and she winked at me before she closed the door behind herself. She looked much calmer than she had the last time I saw her, so I was glad at least one person appreciated what I’d done.

Kierden plucked that thought right out of my mind.

“Iappreciateyou worrying about me enough to feed me your blood.” He set my plate on my lap then picked up a sandwich and lifted it to my lips.
