A female fae brought fancy bread and bowls of soup over and set them down in front of us. We thanked her, and she gave me a curious look. “You’re the human who’s been growing flowers all over the Wilds?”

“Yep.” I gave her a small smile, though part of me worried about her reaction.

She smiled. “I love seeing the flowers everywhere. You should stick around after your event with the other humans.”

My smile grew at her invitation to stay, even though I wasn’t thrilled to hear her mention the competition I was theoretically going to be participating in. “I’ll think about it.”

“Did you try the berries she already grew over by the falls?” someone asked at the table next to ours. “They were incredible.”

Well, that made me feel good.

Hope swelled in my chest.

I was going to find a place. I was going to build a life. A real one, not one trapped in a tower, hoping for everything to change.

And I was going to find it with the fae.

Chapter7

Nissa

As we finished eating, a male fae came and sat down beside me. My face warmed at the short distance between us—and the size of him.

Damn, fae men were huge.

I’d adjusted to Kierden enough that his size didn’t affect me other than turning me on sometimes, but the same wasn’t true for the rest of the fae. This guy in particular had long, curly dark blue hair gathered in a bun on top of his head, and light brown skin. His cheekbones were insanely chiseled, and he was grinning at me.

Honestly, the grin alone made me like him. I’d never had a man look at me like that.

“Hello,” he said.

“Hi.” I bit my lip to hide a smile.

He reached over and tugged my lip free from my teeth, his grin widening. Having his hands on my skin made me feel weird, to say the least. But also kind of good. “What’s your name, Beautiful?”

Ohh.

He was pulling out the big guns already, calling meBeautiful.

“Nissa. What’s yours?” I leaned back away from him, just so he didn’t get any big ideas.

“Uron. How do you like our city?” He gestured to the forest around us.

“It’s kind of magical,” I admitted, glancing out the window nearby and looking at the vibrant jungle around us. Everything was even greener than it had been when I arrived, and I could see some of my colorful flowers out there too, bringing it to life even more.

“Kind ofmagical? You haven’t seen enough of it, then.”

My lips curved upward.

“Stop flirting with her, Uron.” Eisley threw a chunk of her bread at him. He caught it easily, his grin stretching wider as he threw it back.

“Why? I’d like to be at the top of her list when she decides who to spend the eclipse with.” He winked at me, and my smile grew.

He found me attractive, despite the way I’d been starving and imprisoned and everything else.

“It’s two and a half months away. I don’t think you need to start now,” Eisley drawled back.

“Sure I do. Half the fae in Jirev already want to see what kind of plants Nissa grows when she climaxes.”
